High idle...

Given I had a long weekend I figured I would dive in and do my plugs and wires... so off came the intake and TB. I swear I fought with the lower coolant line most of the time for the TB.

Once I was done with the wires and plugs I put everything back together, started her up and she pured better than before. The idle was smoother and once warmed up she hit boost much better. I usually dont break traction too bad but I got her sliding after the new plugs. My old ones were very bad, all of them were burned, showing a mix of lean and rich damage. On the way back from my jaunt down the street I got a 'add coolant' light and immediately turned her off. I was in front of the house already so I popped the hood and started looking for leaks. Ofcourse the damn coolant hose for the TB had split on me and was leaking like a seive.

So off came the TB again, I first tried bypassing the coolant line completely (Afterall I'm in FL, no need for it) but once put back together my car started with a high idle. It was like that of the AWS but once 'blipping' the gas it wouldnt go down. The lowest it would drop was to 2000rpm. A Mazda tech lives across the street from me so I ran over and asked what he thought the issue might be. Well he suggested returning the line just to be certain that isnt the cause, so I did. Once starting again the idle came down with a 'blip' but only to 1500rpm, and slowely down to 1400rpm. I started putting force against the TB 'cams' with my finger and got the idle to come down to about 1k so I turned it off and disconnected my 'cruise control' cable. This brought my idle to 1100rpm, something I could live with temporarely.

I am not certain what could cause this... for some reason it is idling high now... I thought I might of knocked a vacuum line loose but all the ones in the surrounding area look attached. I am thinking of taking it to a rotary specialist that my neighbor knows just to look it over, it will be good because he will probably also notice other things that may need future attention.

Any one else have some ideas before I take it and pay something to fix my girl?

could well be a leak in the upper or lower intake manifold gaskets, especially likely since you removed one. spray carb cleaner all around the gasket while the car is running and if you hear a change or the car stalls, you know it's leaking. but my real question is why would you take them off to change plugs and wires? i have done it before from the bottom without removing the uim and tb.

No, not the UIM, the plastic intake tube... I only removed the TB and oil filler neck to get to the coils.
