High Flow Catalytic Converter

Ok... so im pretty sure im gonna get shot over this, but ive searched the 3rd Gen threads over and over again for some information on High Flow Cats and so far ive gotten nothing.

Its just a quick question BUT, if i install a High Flow Cat on my FD do i need to get a remapped ECU like the Power FC?

Ive heard somewhere that a High Flow Cat linked with a Downpipe and Catback Exhaust that you can get serious boost creep and that you need a new ECU to deal with the modifications.

It depends on any other mods that you have done to the intake/exhaust. Anything that results in boosting over 10 psi on the stock ECU is asking for trouble. A DP/hi-flow cat/catback combination with no intake modifications probably will boost over 10 psi, but every car is different. If you have any intake modifications along with that combo, then boosting over 10 psi is virtually assured.

PM me for info or search for my thread in the 3rd gen parts section for pics

my current engine mods are,
GReddy Airnix Intake
3" Downpipe
Fujitsubo PowerGetter Type RS Exhaust

so basicly, im going to need a PFC or something similar to properly run my FD without boost creep or irregular boosting?

You won't be having problems with boost creep or "irregular boosting". You're basically going to be overboosting-- exceeding the safe boost level for the stock ECU's ability to maintain a safe a/f ratio.

Yes, you will need a PFC or piggyback/modified stock ECU if you intall a hi-flow cat.

keep it at 10 psi and you will be fine.. search 10 psi rule for more info.

And to answer the question after that, the Greddy Type S is a great boost controller for use with stock twins.

The greddy tends to be the most popular choice. I have heard really good things about the Blitz boost controllers as well.
