HID lighting idea ... take a look

hey guys, was thinking about a 99 spec conversion, and upon inspection of the 99 spec signals, I've noticed that a HID buld would fit next to the signal light. Does anyone think this would be possible to run a HID in this position as the primary lighting for the car? I know fumanchu used a hella fog light as his primary light and it was plenty bright. Anyone got some brainstorming ideas ?

I believe Martin from NJ has already retrofitted HID's into his 99 signals.

Right.. I'm slightly confused what you are trying to do, Nopiston94?? If Martin's set up isn't what you're looking for..

My guess is you were talking about the FEED Type 2 R bumper that uses FEED's own style lights that are HID as well.

is that it?

Are we talking something that can be used as a headlight, or just a bright marker light bulb?

I'm talking about a driving light
I've never seen a HID bulb used not as a driving light. Well besides High beams and fog lights.

I haven't done it but have thought about fitting a driving light there. There is probably enough space to fit a narrow driving light in that space. A friend of mine did something similar in his Miata and just left the signal light in that space affixed to the body using some p-ties. He fitted some stell mesh over the entire area. Doesn't look too bad on his car.

HID's can be very expensive, upwards of $500 US for one kit, now they are very bright, but also the warmup time for them can be a bit of a hassle for people like me in the winter, but i still want them, they are very sweet headlights, but have only limited uses right now, most of all right now they are mainly used on high end vehicles so that drivers can prove to other drivers that they have money, when they are broke, or to show that people wasted money on a really nice set of headlights for their 19 year old CRX lol, i prefer seeing the first reason myself, i want two sets of HID's (Love the look) and a set of fog lights, not a whole lot but enough to see what is ahead fo me at night.

(If you don't understand my spelling or something just read it slowly and try to figure it out, cause i'm lazy at typing right :P, so just sound it out and try to think of what i WAS trying to say.)

It only takes a few seconds for an HID bulb to reach max brightness. We're not talking about baseball stadium lighting here; automotive HID ballasts will light up the HID bulb immediately and reach full brightness in about the time it takes to buckle your seat belt.

That's what I thought he was talking about about.. baseball field lights.. lol!

HID's only take 2-3 seconds MAX to get to its temp. Unless you have some cheap knock off maybe them might take longer.. I have retrofitted Hella HID's for my 7 and never notice any problems.

I always thought it would be neat to use one of those and retrofit it or design a new combo light that works with the 99 spec combo lights and looks somewhat factory. It would be like having sleeks lights, only not.

sorry i dont have pics for you guys....

i used hella micro de xenon... the light in the picture above probably wont work

you need to have the 99 spec rebar to mount them into place, and they are a pain in the *** to straighten.

here is a pic of my car when it was missing a turn signal.
