i'll be sure to let you guys know how badly they suck when i install them on my Mazdaspeed in a week or so. i'll try to provide pictures as well for my high/low beam set up.

The problem is that there is still motion of the cable between the ballast and the bulb, everytime you open or close the retractable lamp assembly you'll stress the cable - if I read what you are trying to say, right.

Take a straight peice of wire, like a coat hanger, then bend it repeatedly in the same location in different directions. Eventually, the wire will fail at that point and break. Of course, the cable between the ballast and the bulb is more flexible - but the same principle applies. I really don't think the engineers meant for this cable to be flexed regulary like this.

You may not have problems for years and years (and maybe never), but it's not a risk I'm willing to take, especially when we are talking about as much voltage that can exist on that wire. I know what 12V feels like, but I really don't want to know what 2000v does.
Ok, I see your point... but! I took some heat shrink tubing and put it over the entire set of wires and shrunk it fairly tight. Then, over that, I took more tubing, (non-heatshrink) and covered the wires.
A point to think about would be that is there a car in the world where the wires are not going to bend? Think about all the other wires in your car, like your hood release, gas cap release, and hatch release. I really think your idea may be negligable if precautions are taken. I think its worth the risk. my $.02

I think the rotary extreme HID lighting looks great as is.
The only thing that im not too fond of is some very small things in the "looks" department. The fact that you can see the projectors casings and some wiring from certain angles..doesnt look like its factory lighting that way.

Also, the fact that the edges/circles of both projectors can't be clearly seen from looking head on...they look squished inside there.

plus i think they'd look bad *** with one bulb smaller than the other. Either like the beast below, or with the outside projector being smaller. Both ways look nice as hell.

I found a perfect spot. If you take the parking/turn signal assembly out there is a ledge on the bumper right under the parking/turn light assembly hole on the inside. I screwed it in there along with a piece of 2 sided tape as well. The light assembly fits perfectly over the ballast. I zip tied the wired away from the motion of the headlamp, no problems at all. Been running it for almost a year now.
That is where my ballast is mounted.

BTW, whomever said that Catz sucks, please enlighten me. I heard just the opposite.

I gather that the Hella High beam assembly for the RE kit is much longer than the low beam. Can anyone tell me wether it is just the high beam's length that requires frame cutting, or would the low beam require it as well?

i've looked at the bulb assemblies on some new cars such as VWs and S2000s, and the highbeam projector in them looks awfully small, significantly less than 90mm (3.5")

i'm surprised nobody has just adapted the "guts from one of these assembies into a new case for the 7.

It's the other way around:

Yup, I am curious about the Catz kit too. I heard that they are an ISO9001 certified company. How bad can their products be?

Yeah, the Catz are ISO 9001 (and maybe 9002) certified company.

And the HID are made by a Japanese company that makes the best in the world. Forgot what they are called.

But they boost the lowest failure rate................ something important to consider when buying a HID kit that costs and arm and a leg.

I'll try to take pics of the HID at night this weekend.

I'm looking to fabricate my own HID kit that is similar to Knight Sport but uses 90mm Hella Projectors, for low beam, and standard hallogen for high beam, because I don't want to spend the money for both if I use High Beam 2% of the time I drive...

If anybody has Knight sport can they get pictures of what the interior Looks like !?

Anyhow I'm going to try and get a replacement Black Shroud, so that the install looks OEM. If Rotary Extreme is interested in this please let me know and I will try to work with you to get a Kit put together for sale, other than that I might make 2-3 Copies and sell them to recover design and manufactureing costs of the custum black shrouds... I'll keep you posted, first I ned to save some dough for the 90mm hellas... anybody seen a good price for these !?

Derek

It's my guess that the aftermarket ones have poor peripheral lighting.

More of a spot light pattern.
