hey all!
I have owned both FC's and FD's and after driving my old FC 3 weeks after I owned my FD there is NO going back. Although the FC's are simplified mechanically compared to an FD, there are far more readily available upgrades for the FD than the FC. I find that the design is also a winner, what car of its time looked like the FD?? The FC's look too much like a porsche 944 etc, the FD has ultra smooth body lines and a really well handling chassis and a kick **** engine to boot!
I'd have to agree that the FD is certainly a financial challenge. Unless you are in a comfortable position, money wise, I'd steer clear of the FD. It's an absolute blast! and worth every penny, but if you've only got a couple penny's to play with you will be left burned. Badly burned. Ebay items will make you start threads titled "So I blew my engine and don't know why..." You really do need to pay to play.
That being said, I agree with what the other guys said about reading the stickies and the FAQ. As an idea of what I mean... I spent well over 150 hours during the course of 3-5 months (much of that time as a guest on here, before I even made an account here) doing nothing but reading current and past threads, researching the 7. When I bought my car I knew more about how it was supposed to run and work than the seller did.
Bottom Line: Study up before you think about dropping cash on this car.
Pipe down newb.. You're just barely past your "first 72 hours" welcoming period. Don't think you can start laughing at the other new guys yet.
