Clutch Options and what to look for

Has anyone tried this clutch before. Its and XTD 6 Puc "MIBA" Copper Ceramic.

What type of material is the best for clutches in terms of longevity?

Whats the differences between a sprung and unsprung clutch?

Whats the difference between a 3 puck, 4 puck and 6 puck vs. a twin plate?

What do the measurements mean ?
F1 Racing Stage 3 Copper Ceramic 6-puck Disc (240mm, 23 spline) ?? 240mm and 23 spline????

our cars have problems with name brand clutches going out easy.... buy ACT, HKS, Centerforce... something that stands for its name. Never heard of them and as far as i can tell its just another ebay company trying to get rich quick.

The more you slip a clutch, the shorter its life span will be. Get a clutch that will hold the power your engine makes.
I would recommend sticking with a name brand that has a strong reputation with FD's. A few were mentioned by the post before mine. I am going with ACT

the disk has springs to lessen the abrupt "grab" of letting the clutch go, helps for a smoother launch. Un-sprung is a solid disk. May take a little more getting used to, and doesn't have any dampening between the engine and transmission. I prefer sprung.

multi-puck: the fewer the pucks, the more aggressive the engagement will be, slipping the clutch becomes more tedious and will experience more chatter on a slow take-off, street/strip disks are more of a ring like OEM. Twin Plate are expensive, but give you the benefit of easier engagement but the capability to hold more power than a single plate. These are generalizations, and there is more information available on this forum if you search.

The mm dimensions are the diameter of the clutch. the spline is to determine which input shaft it will fit. If you get an application specific clutch kit... you won't have to worry about this.

How much power are you making?

Anything around 400, I would look at the ACT ZX3-XTSS or XTMM kit. Supposedly can hold up to 451 ft/lbs of torque. It is the clutch I am using on my Seq. BNR Stage 3 Build-up. I am considering trying out a stock disk, but i am leaning towards the SS disk.

Here is the listing of available kits from ACT. The prices are at full retail, you will be able to find them for much less.

stay the f##K away from xtd or any other ebay vendor brand pressure plate and clutches because the price they sell for says it all, it is absolute garbage. Believe me, I purchased that same brand and wound up having to replace the whole dam set up again.

a 6 puck does not feel like stock at all. the 3 and 4 are even further from stock.

if you are not making in excess of 450 hp, there is no reason to go with anything higher than the ss disk and the xt pressure plate (or comparable from other companies.) Unless you just want a 6 puck, then I would recommend a sprung 6 puck.

if this is a track only car... then you might... and only might, want to go with anything more extreme. I have had great experiences with full face clutch disks and good experiences with 6 pucks, but I would prefer the full face as long as the pressure plate I have can hold the power I am running.

Plus, It makes city driving much easier. If less extreme will do the job... why go with more?

I will be ordering my ACT ZX3-XTSS (extreme pressure plate and their top full faced clutch disk) kit along with the prolite flywheel within the next 2 weeks, And I am aiming for over 400hp.
