Hesitation gots me going nuts!!

Im not sure if its the famous 3k Hesitation or what but its annoying the hell out of me. If I try to hold the throttle meaning cruise anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 the thing starts bucking like a horse. Its horrible Ive got back pains from it some times. So is this the famous hesitation or just something else?? When I mean this this bucks it bucks!!!!

hesitation

fatman- you have something else. 3K hesitation is usually a *momentary* loss of power- 1 or 2 seconds that happens when you are accelerating moderately and the tach hits 3K. Many theories for why it happens, most times it goes away when people upgrade their ecu to an aftermarket computer.

Some people have some luck upgrading their ground points on the car. Mine was fixed by adding a Power FC.

I remember Dont_Be_A_Rikki saying that you can disconnect your O2 sensor to temporarily fix the problem. I don't know if the problem is directly related to the O2 sensor, but the problem won't happen in closed-loop mode. Remember, closed loop mode should only be temporary, because you will run rich.

Like rfreeman27 said, upgrade your ground points. Just go to Autozone, Napa, or most any auto parts store and get a ground cable. Ground your engine block to the firewall or to the battery (negative terminal) if possible.

I agree, its a problem related to the 3k hesitation. My car does it to a lesser degree than yours but at light throttle constant speed going about 30 in second gear it does a mild bucking routine. I'm in the process of doing my own "Hyperground" system. Do a search for grounding or Hyperground. Lots of good threads on the subject.

Or, since the car didn't have the hesitation right off the showroom floor, you could just sand and clean all your stock grounding locations.

BTW Another symtom to add to the list. On idle while bucking everything seems dim but when I gun it or give it past 75% throttle the lights get brighter. This a ground? Possibly even my altenator?

Check the battery. The FD's electrical system does all KINDS of weird stuff with a weak/failing battery. If you're unsure with a multimeter, just get Autozone or the like to hook up a tester and see what's up.

I had the same problem at night when I had my AC and lights on. I tried the ground strap from the batt. to the strut tower, but didn't have any luck. What happened was the ground strap from the manifold to the firewall the plastic connector had melted and it looked like it wasn't getting a good connection. I replaced that strap and several others after reading Damain's thread.

OK follow up. I added another strap from battery to frame. While Im down there what do I find!!! The wire I had running from the o2 sensor melted (to close to turbo intake) and was shorting with the group from manifold to firewall!!!! OMG So I fixed that and sanded and cleaned the ground. It's ALOT better yet its down to a mild stutter instead of mad bucking. BTW Just a thought how often do you have to change spark plugs?

Next on to do list:
CHECK EVERY GROUND IN THE CAR!! AHHHH
BTW how many are there?

sounds like the grounds are the most likely culprit . As you have found so far. Keep in mind the milage on the car, maybe the injectors have a little restriction from sitting if the car was.

That depends on how much you drive your car and if you do any autox or other track racing. I barely put 5000 miles per year on my car these last few years so I change them once a year (after winter storage).

You might want to think about changing out your O2 sensor if you haven't yet. That's often an overlooked maintenance item.

This is my daily drive I have put easily 1,000 miles every month. I do the normal oil change and look over maintanence and so far this is the only problem shes given me. I also think it may be an o2 sensor but I wouldnt mind replacing the spark plugs just to be safe.
