I just installed new spark plugs and then when i was finished i fired her up and it revved up to around 35 to 4000 rpm's...And the car just stays at that idle and it will not find its normal idle parameters...

anyone know what the hell is happening..

thanks

Did you install them from the top or bottom?

If you went from the top, make sure you didn't kink the throttle cable (or cruise control cable if your car is equiped with it).

AWS is the accelerated warm up system. TRy starting your car in gear and keep the cltuch in after u start it, keep it in gear and see where your idle goes.

Remove the cruise control cable and see if it happens again. Sounds like the cruise control cable is pulling on the throttle (which can happen easily).

Ok, when you start the car, it goes to 3600 rpms and never goese lower? How about if you blip the gas pedal?

If not, look where the line runs from the cruise control unit to the throttle body. Disconnect the line from the throttle body. Start the car up again and see if the problem still persist.

Hey, where is the screw that you adjusted? I just put in new plugs from the top, and removed the throttle body in the process. I have the same idling problems after installation of plugs. Idle starts at 3k at start up and won't go below 2k after I blip the pedal. The car won't even switch into 4th gear on the automatic transmission b/c the idle is so high. Please help... I can't even find the idle screw to adjust. thanks.

It's right by the throttle cable.

I had the same problem too when I was changing my spark plugs a few days ago. But my problem was that a hose had come undone from the oil filler.

There are 2 hoses that lead away from the oil filler...follow those lines and make sure they are not loose, cracked or disconnected. I would check those as well so that you can rule them out as your problem.

cruise control unit?

Where is the cruise control unit? I own a 1988 rx7 13b turbo ii. just got her. my idle is over 3K RPMS. I push the clutch in and she revs even higher. It seems like the car's throttle is stuck. I will be in 4th gear, not giving it any gas and she'll just keep running... its crazy! help!

Does the FD have a throttle position sensor like the old 1st gens? or at least an adjustable one?

Smurf, yes there is a TPS, and it is adjustable, and often goes out of whack. There's a nice write up on how to adjust it on this forum.
