help w/huge boost spike (searched)
i have a '94, poor-man's non-seq., pettit intake, m2 downpipe, h.d. boost controller.
i started getting a bigger boost spike than ever before a few weeks ago after picking the car up from a radiator hose repair and i think something is broken/not working, but i can't find anything wrong.
the car boosts a solid 9-10 psi on the current setting depending on what gear i am in, but when i first get on the gas, i get huge spikes ranging from 14-16 psi depending on gear, air temp, etc. the spikes are very brief (1+ second) and then the boost drops to the set level.
i have to imagine something is not working properly as this seems excessive for my mods, but all my hoses (silicone) seem to be connected and in good condition. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
andy

I don't know how HD boost controllers work, but here's my lay-persons opinion.
If they HD boost controller duty controls the wastegate like electronic ones, then I think you may have a slow moving wastegate actuator. If they work kinda like a pop-off valve, just venting any boost over the set level, then I have no idea.

t88:
the problem started a while ago (about 5k miles ago). it was evident before the dp but got much worse after the dp install.

i think it works like an electronic controller. my question is, how do i speed up the actuator. i lubed it with a srpay lube with no noticeable change. do i need to replace the thing completely?

I believe they just act as bleed off valves. I had one that I ran into the cockpit of an old turbo Mustang of mine. A little piece of dirt would clog it up and cause boost spikes from time to time.
