Turbo timers are for kids that don't know any better. Get your money back, or sell it to some other kid that doesn't know any better.

Turbo timers are a waste of time and money. You don't need one. They can be unreliable too.

Here's a true story:
A kid in his FD is pulled over by the local police for speeding. He pulls over, and turns off the ignition, but the turbo timer keeps the engine running. Now the police are yelling at him over the loudspeaker to turn off the car. He can't do it. The police draw their guns. The situation didn't get any worse, but thats bad enough.

Just one more reason to NOT get a turbo timer.

Cuz he's stupid and doesn't know to press power.. or hang his keys out the window to show that he took it out.

What about diesel cars that run after they're shut off?

Hanging your keys out the window isn't going to prove anything to the police. We already know that he is stupid ............. because he has a turbo timer

Diesel cars NORMALLY don't run after they are shut down. If they do, that is a repair that is needed. It is not because some dumb kid installed un-needed equipment.

Typically diesel cars don't run after being shut off, however, there's the phenomenon known as "dieseling", which is probably what they were referring to, which is when gasoline engine cars run after their ignition is cut off...I'm not totally clear on the cause of it, but I recall the sound well (my first car, an 85 Jetta) would do this toward the end of it's life, and it's ghetto as hell Chicks _definitely_ don't dig it.

Fastcat: What all do you currently have done on your car? BOV's don't offer any real performance enhancement, so if you're looking for perf or reliability, spend your money elsewhere. Do you have stainless brake lines? What pads are you running? Gauges?

There are several small-ish things you can do to your car that enhance it's perf, reliability or your ability to diagnose issues, and they're all among the things that you probably ought to do in the beginning before moving on to cosmetic things like BOV's, neon undercar lighting and sexy women

If I were you I'd get a radiator and an aftermarket AST (or eliminate it) before thinking about a BOV which really does nothing but make "cool" sounds. If your stock radiator is good you'll ~PROBABLY~ be ok, but for me the upgraded aftermarket ones are great insurance. The stock one has plastic end tanks that have been known to crack - same problem with the plastic AST.

I agree with novadan67 on that...an aftermarket radiator is a great way to keep your car cooler, and is a good opportunity to make sure you have your water/coolant mix right. The AST is a simple install, and will also provide for a safety net if you still have that stocker in there. Other than those, consider maybe saving your money for a while and going for some higher flowing injectors and a high flow fuel pump. At least then you'll be able to put them on, and be ready to tune.

Maybe a 2nd oil cooler if you dont already have one. I went with the dual mocal oil coolers from crooked willow. Radiator, AST like said above and a boost guage. I don't see a problem with a turbo timer its not a big deal to have one or not to have one. Either or just let your turbo powered car sit for alittle while before shutting her off after driving and boosting.

The connector you need to hook into is in the steering column that goes to the key switch. The turbo timer harness will just go in between the wiring harness plug and the key switch plug. You'll also need to run the e-brake sensor line to the e-brake wire which is in the center console and splice it in. It's pretty straight forward once you get in there and have a look. I didn't bother hooking up the speed sensor.

And as for it being a good bad idea, that's your call. Make sure you know how to use it so that you dont get shot by the cops.

I typically only use mine for allowing the radiator fan to run after I've shut the engine off - turn off engine, turn key back on again (don't start) turn on turbo timer, turn off key (ignition is still on though due to turbo timer) and press the AC button - voila, the fans run until the turbo timer shuts everything off. IMO that's quite a valid use for it.

Oh and make sure you turn off the cheezy little tunes and stuff it plays...

Did you really just bump a 5 year old thread to ask if a non-functional Turbo Timer would be *bad* for your car???

To be honest it's probably the best thing that has happened to your car.
