Question Help: Taking Off The Clutch

Guys I've managed to do every single thing there has been to do on my car so far, which means taking everything apart and rebuilding two engines and any other thing you can think of, but I am still confused on how you're supposed to take the clutch out of the transmission. I need help to know what tools I would need and step by step telling me how to take it off the tranny cause I don't see any screws or anything. A picture of what my tranny and clutch look like is provided. Thanks beforehand for any help guys.....

you have to release the throwout bearing from the collar it snaps into on the pressure plate, all you need is a big flathead screwdriver. remove the acess panel on the side of the bell housing and reach in with screwdriver and pry the throwout bearing back, it should snap out with a little force.

I found the tire iron from a 2004 F-150 will promote immediate release of the collar

You dont need to go through all that. You can see the small ring on the inside of the presure plate teeth. Just use a pick and pull it out try not to bend it so you may reuse it if you wish. Those damn wedge collar and rings are$70.

We will figure most people don't have a 2004 F-150 and instead well give him some thing he might be able to use.

Is that the video where he does the demonstration on his dining table? I can't watch it... don't wanna dl the player. But if it is... GREAT MOVIE!. He's very detailed and shows exactly how to get it disconnected... and since your tranny is already off... you should have no problem at all doing this.

Just trying to help another forum member with not too much in the tool dept. when he was trying to get his loose. The only thing I had with me was the tire iron, which worked flawlessly. I was'nt trying to start a run on 2004 F-150 tire irons. I'll try not to suggest unorthodox tooling in the future.

thanks impactwrench for the advice. don't take anything anyone said offensively bro. i would think that everyone who works on their fd uses unorthodox and unimaginable tools to work on their fd once in a while to make up for the expencive tools that they don't have. keep up the great work guys and good luck with your cars....

LOL ...Look out Ford parts depatment ! ! ! I applaud your inginuity<---spelling ? and figure a screw driver will provide the same level of use as a tire iron. The biggest thing most people don't do is move the throw out bearing towards the pressure plate (the slave cylinder has to be off of the throw out bearing fork (couldn't tell if his slave cylinder was off or not) and a couple screw drivers through the inspection cover and it pops right out without damaging anything.

A little off topic but along the same lines, the coolant hose connection on the drivers side that's supposed to be a quick release insulated fitting ! ! ! ! There's another piece of work that gets destroyed before you learn to remove it correctly. (-;

Ya, been there, done that only just hose clamped the new hose on per Cam's"Pettit" instuctions and had no problems with it. That's a fancier than required connection.
