Sorry if I couldn't find it, but I used the search and found the question asked half way through a couple posts but never answered.

245x45x16

would be the widest you would ever realistically want to run

Why the lower profile? Would a 245/50/16 not work? Would it be safe to go with 235/50/16?

I have 245/50/16 Goodyear's(Hey they were free and I needed tires) and my car is lowered. I actually would need to roll my fenders if I intended to do any hard turns/cornering as I have attempted a few hard turns already and they have bent the inner lips of the front fenders out. Luckily, they weren't bent too bad and I was able to bang them back up with a hammer. I wouldn't suggest 245/50/16's, I am using them because they were free, had good tread and I was low on $$, but if I were to buy tires I would buy 245/45/16.

I just don't want to mess my speedo up. So I would like to keep the profile at 50.

Stock tire size is 225/55/16 right? So 245/45/16 would be the closest to getting a 245 width and keeping the stock diameter right? Or at least wouldn't 245/45 be better than 245/50 for diameter??

stock size is 225/50/16 if i'm not mistaken.

sidewall height
225/50/16 => 225*.50=112.50
245/45/16 => 245*.45=110.25

so as you can see total tire diameter should be within 4.5mm of one another. pretty darn close.

I thought that the stock tire size was 225/50/16. So I was thinking maybe go for 235/50/16 or 245/50/16, but the 235 are not exactly a popular size. Am I wrong on the stock tire size?

I just checked www.1010tires.com and they list the stock size as 225/50/16.

Oh I see. I am wrong then about the stock tire size. Nevermind. I think my car had 225/55/16's on it originally, but I guess someone didn't install the factory size.

Do you think that there would be much differance in speedo readings lowering the profile from 50 to 45? Is there any way to recalibrate the speedo?

The "50" in 225/50/16 is not a consistent size, its a percentage of the width. The sidewall is 50% of the 225 mm with. SO, if you go wider, you'll need at lower aspect ratio (45) to maintain the same (roughly) diameter. 245/45/16 is the best size.

Please correct me if I am in error.

circumference=C
Diameter=D
16inches= 406.4mm

225/50/16:
C=D(3.14)
C=[406.4mm+2(112.50mm)](3.14)
C=631.4mm(3.14)
C=1982.596mm

245/45/16
C=D(3.14)
C=[406.4mm+2(110.25mm)](3.14)
C=626.9mm(3.14)
C=1968.466mm

So the difference in circumference is 14.13mm or 1.413mm.

Ok so now 60km=60 000 000mm
in one hour the 225 tire going at 60km/h rotates=
=60 000 000mm/1982.596mm
=30263.35 rotations/h

in one hour the 245 tire going at 60km/h rotates=
=60 000 000mm/1968.466mm
=30480.58rotations/h

But the car with the 245 tire on it thinks it has 24 tires on it so it would read:
=30480.58rotations/h(1982.596mm)
=60 430 690mm/h or 60.4km/h

The change ratio =1982.596/1968.466
=1.007

So even at 260km/h the speedo would read 261.82km/h

I think this is acceptible(Haha). My god I feel like a geek for doing that.

Stock rims are 8" wide as well. The most you'll be able to fit is still 245s. 245/40/18 to be exact.

Nope, to maintain stock diameter, would need 245/35/18. This low profile requires a minimum of 8.5 inch rims. Don't run 18x8 wheels.
