HELP Oil pressure problem

This is going to make me sell my 3rd gen if I have to rip the engine out again! Has anyone experienced this problem. I get 60PSI at idle ( sometimes 100 ) But when I rev it up it goes up alittle but then dies down. I cant seem to get higher oil pressure. The car has just been rebuilt. Brand new oil pump , added a second oil cooler, all new oil seals and gaskets, and replaced stock gauge with an autometer gauge. At first I thought it was the gauge but I removed it and checked it with an air compressor and it is dead on. I did not replace the rotor bearings or the oil regulator because I felt they didn't need replacing. I've talked to alot of people and here are possible problems:

bad Regulator, crushed front cover inner oil seal ( the white one) or really bad tollerances on oil bearings.

I really need some advice or similiar problems, help! If I replace this **** and its not the problem I'm going to sell it and buy my supra back!

um... it could also be that your oil pressure sensor is bad or that the connector between the oil sensor and the wiring back to the gauge (found just below the oil filter on the driver's side of the engine bay) is dirty and you are getting a bad signal back to the gauge.

i've read, a number of times on here, posts by people who really know these cars, which state that the problems i'm telling you about are VERY common and easilly repairable. most of the time i see it though, its that the oil pressure is low at idle and jumps up when you get on the throttle... so it might not be what your problem is, but i'd be damn sure to check those things (simple fixes) before you go selling your car.

best of luck and be sure to post the cure in this thread if/when you find it.

Sounds to me like you should sell the car and be done with it. You'll probably be much happier with a supra. seriously.

yeh

I had a supra and the rx7 is way more fun, but I am getting tired of stupid problems that only seems to happen to me! And to the other post I have a new autometer gauge , so I'm using the stock sender.

Did you read 7racer's link? The stock sender often goes bad after about 40K (like mine did); you'll be lucky if it lasts 60-70K miles. Replace it and you'll be fine.

sender

Thanks for the responce but I am not running the stock oil gauge. I also tried the mech. one and same readings. 50-60 at idle and when I rev it up the pressure dips downward. If the pump WAS bad it would read low pressure all the time wouldn't it? I had that problem last time. I'm going to check the oil seal behind the front cover tonight. Someone says if that is cracked the pressure would be relieved out and back to the oil pan, but how the f does that go bad! I was really hoping someone had a similar problem.

If the sender unit is bad, then it doesn't matter what type or brand of oil pressure gauge you have.

The "mechanical" portion of the gauge is the sender unit on the block. I'd hate to see the accompanying hardware for a mechanical oil pressure gauge...

AFTERMARKET sender

Guys I'm not using the stock sender. The autometer comes with one. I think I found the problem. On mazdatrix's web site they explain about problems with the front cover oil O ring. Sounds exactly like my problem .......hopefully.

if you didn't use a gasket on the front cover but used the stock oring and retainer on the oil crossover it is possable to crush the oring and make it leak, but I don't think that's your problem. I sounds like your sucking air between the oil pump and the front housing causing the pump to cavitate at higher revs. When you pull the front cover, put a thin bead of sealant there.

?

You mean the front cover or thr actual oil pump. I changed the oil o ring behind the front cover, removed front cover gasket, and still same problem. I guess I looking at a new engine with the money I don't have and wont have for a couple of years.

Or maybe during assembly, you forgot some of the "O" rings for the oil passage on the upper left side of the engine where the tubular dowels are.

I mean where the oil pumps machined surface meets the machined surface of the front housing. If the two surfaces are not perfect, you maybe sucking air into the pump between the two. I have always used a thin layer of "honda bond" when assembling the two.

If it was me, I think I would pull the pan also and check the pressure regulator and the control valve in the front cover. Also check the strainer on the oil pick-up, I have seen them near plugged with RTV.

oil

I'll try that next rebuild. I've came to the conclusion that it is probally the oil bearings in the engine. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
