Lightbulb HELP!!! Need to pass emissions.

I need to pass emissions. I have a Large street port, and I am running non seq. I have a Haltek EK6. I have no cats intake and full 3" race exhaust. Im going to be borrowing someones stock exaust from the cat back. I have a laptop that can access the ECU but I am very hesitant to mess with the maps. (Note: I am running pig rich). I do not have a Wideband O2 Sensor. I have a week. The closest emiisions place is within a mile so I wont have far to go.

I neeed some USEFUL input from someone with a similar setup that has succesfully passed emissions or someone that has helped someone succesfully pass emmisions.

I bet if you check the map sensor, if it's unplugged...plug it in, you'll pass then.

haha, for some reason I'll never forget.

you'll need a cat, and an air pump. the E6K can operate the air pump, I bet you can find a cheap C4 vette electric air pump. turn in ON for the portions of the test. If that doesn't work, put alcohol in the tank. <--search if you need more info.

I passed with a piggy back ECU with a mild street port and all the bolt-ons. I did have the ACV, air pump, and stock cat.

for the latest, I've gotten better at taking the emissions test

...First, with an E6X (used feedback O2), large street port, single, stock cat w/ air pump, and purge valve; cruisings A:F 14.7:1.

...Second, (cut emissions in 1/2) with an E6X (dropped base fuel pressure, increased timing split, leaned maps and DISABLED feedback O2), large street port, single, this time with a high flow ceramic cat, MSD 6A, a catch can, and purge valve; cruisings A:F ~15:1.

Next test, same as above...Metallic cat, with air pump and O2 ON, and purge Disabled.

Don't be afraid to lean the maps (slowly) under vac. the car will stumble when it needs more fuel and hunt at idle, not detonate. also lean out the tip in maps...or just make sure they are in check. If you have purge, unplug the solenoid.

good luck

I know I need the cat and airpump.

Ok I know I need to lean out the maps, but having never adjusted the maps Im not too sure which setting I need to adjust. Need some help with that.

When you say add alcohol what do you mean, where do I get it? Is this the same as adding drygas?

Also what is purge?

plug the E6K in to a laptop...select online mode. While driving at say 15mph. press, "Ctrl F" this brings you to the fuel map "Home" now the little red arrow is on the BAR on the map the car is reading. Down arrow - minus fuel, Up arrow - add fuel. Pg Up - add chunk of fuel, Pg Dn - minus clunk of fuel. Press Throttle, hit "home", repeat. Works best with a friend in the car. Oh, "N" is for the NEXT rpm map, and "P" is for...well, I'll let you guess.

If you have a O2 sensor, "ctrl O" tab until you find O2...play with the settings...cruise should be ~750mV (14.7) and idle ~850mV (mine likes a little fuel at idle) with a 0-1V sensor. Maybe minus up to 5% and add around 3%, engine cycles 2+, start up delay 60s, temp limit 165*...that's all I can remember.

Purge - is a fuel vapor recovery system, it has a metal check valve in the vac line...it pulls vapors out of the fuel tank/canister...basically adds emissons (in my head)...unplug solenoid valve.

Alcohol, denatured...from Home Depot Racing, something like 1 gallon for 1/4 tank of gas...search for it you'll find it. I haven't tried this...and haven't passed this year.

have fun.

Up a creek.

Its not sounding too good for you at this moment. Unfortunatly me and my brother (owns a third gen with HBP ) Had to go the bribe route as well. We had to take a car we knew would pass emissions in and give the dude all the 7 information so he could enter that in. It gets pretty expensive, plus they are REALLY cracking down on emissions here. All I can say is good luck.
