Help My car almost caught on fire

I was in my 7 last night when it began making a funny noise. I sounded like I was driving in a light sleet rain , but it was coming from under the hood. I pulled over and popped the hood. There was black smoke coming from the driverside back by the firewall right beside the oil filter. I thought it might be electrical. It was late and I didn't have a flashlight. Upon closer inspection the next day I realized that it could have been possibly the fuel line about to catch fire. My question is whether or not anyone has had this same problem and what it was. also is it possible that it could have been my fuel lines i.e. the ones under the intake mani. Also is there any way to check to make sure the recall has been performed or not.I don't know because i just bought the car. Sorry for the long post and any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks alot

is it likely that it could have been the fuel line or could it have been somthing else. By the way the car was warmed for about 5-10 minutes then I drove about 3 minutes before this happened.

I don't know that was part of my original question. I was just guessing because I knew about the recalls

I think Skunks is saying that you really won't know what caused it until you get in there and see. You could guess that it's a fuel line or electrical but the proof will be in the pudding (so to speak).

Check your plug wires real good at the coils. It sounds like one might have come loose and you had a lot of arcing there. Good luck.

Thanks for the help guys. I just got the car towed back so I will most likely start tomorrow. I will check the plug wires first. Any suggestions as to where I should start given that it is not the plug wires??
