Help me with my engine bay.

You know, lately when I look at my engine bay I get bored/embarrassed, especially when I visit the "Post pics of your engine bay" thread. Now I realize that my setup gets the job done and that the "bling" is not essential to the car's function, but you have to admit that it does look a little bland. I guess I want to make it shinier, and improve function if possible.

I did a brief search related to this subject, but it was hard to find much that helped. So if anyone wants to jump in and give some advice/guidance (to a noob), I truly would appreciate it. Well, thats all.

Happy Holidays!

Mike

what you need is just some accessorizing and polishing. Here is what I would do...

Color of choice Silicon Vacuum line upgrade
Polish the pipe that is from the y-pipe to the i/c
Polished intake hardpipes (you can get em on ebay for really cheap)
Greddy Oil Cap or some other kind of your choice
Turbojeff 51r Battery Tray (this will give you some more room and make it look a lil better)
Newer looking couplers

All that probably won't come out to be any more than $300. Have fun.

Where can I get an intake setup like this including the chrome hard pipes? Does anyone know if anything is used between the silicon and the air pilter? Thanks.

Well the best bling bling you can do to the engine bay is to just add a single kit ...lol

If you don't mind a little down-time, you could get your UIM and TB polished.

I'm not a huge fan of the "look" of that intake kit, however I do know it works great.

I think you're engine bay is very nice and clean, actually.

Do you have two BOV's hooked up? You could probably clean this area up, maybe change the color of the silicone line to something other than blue.

Like others have said, get polished intake pipes like these.
http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/polishedpipekit.htm

Get you UIM, TB, and intercooler pipes polished and buy new couplers. You could also buy a strut bar to add a little more bling and to stiffen the chassis.

you want to spend time and money to make your engine bay shiny, and you dont really care about function? I think you suffer from too much free time. I have a solution for this, its called get a life. and maybe even do something useful with that excess cash like invest it. dont think of it so much as a flame as tough love.

uim and throttle body polished and polished hard pipes from rx7 store would be nice. like someone else said you could get ahead of youself and replace all the vac lines with colored silicone ones. greddy, hks couplers. take that airpump out to expose turbos?? you could get a greddy or unorthadox pully kit. i am sending all my pullys to a friend to get them powder coated for only 10.00 a piece. just something to consider...

You know guys I have to apologize as I mistakenly posted the wrong picture. Not much has changed in the new pic, with the exception of new viton hoses and red silicone couplers. Guess I'm moving forward (at a snails pace).

Oblique: Just one BOV. I actually think I am going to get rid of it as it may get in the way of a future strut bar. The blue hose was something Ray at PFS used until I provided the viton. You think the polished intake pipes from RX7store will fit for me? I was entertaining the thought of maybe going with another intake all together, although which one I don't know.

mrb: Thanks for the kind words. I try to keep it looking clean, but with unpolished/coated parts nothing really sparkles.

VGLover: I actually like the twins, and hope to upgrade to BNRs when the time comes. I have to admit that when I saw Ernie T's single I was quite impressed.

DMoney: Got the turbojeff tray somewhere around this house, just need to find it. The new couplers are on, and I hope to get one of these polishing gurus from the site to help me with the rest.

CantGoStraight: Have seen your work. Very nice! I'll shoot you a PM in a bit.

rockshox: I'm not sure if we've met, but I can say with some confidence that you have no inkling of how I have invested my money over the years, or even at present. In terms of getting a life, I have one, but I refuse to grant you any satisfaction by involving you in it, with the exception of this thread. RX7 owners like to make their cars run good and look nice, which sometimes leads to a little bling, but from your response, you would rather invest it. So then why do you own an RX7, if your ultimate advice is to get a life and invest money, well then up and sell your stuff and invest away! But hey, thanks for your investment wisdom.

Ouch 'rocksox', seriously, lay off the "obsessive MoM" syndrome.. it's his money, his ride ... he didn't ask to be nannied by someone with flappy gums

Anyhoo... I think you just need to add some color... little too much grey/black and the blue highlights aren't enough. Some red/orange silicon couplers and coolant hoses, polished intake pipe (left side). Maybe even some anodized pulley?! Make the black stuff look new too, WD40 is awesome! But the tb and uim look good enough. Of course carbon fiber always adds some good bling too

I actually have the unorthodox full pulley set on my X-mas wish list, but fear it is only a dream. Nobody likes buying me car parts.

So here is a short list of what to "bling".

UIM, LIM, TB, Hard pipes to and from IC. Intake pipes, alternator, pulley set, turbojeff tray and oil cap.

I'd like to replace any rubber hoses with braided lines, but not sure if its doable.

What do ya'll think?

I think the money would be better spent for something else the car needs. If you have to do something, get a matching polished intercooler pipe on the passenger side.

I kinda agree with adam c but I mean I think just doing a few hundred under the hood to make it more aesthetically pleasing is alright.

Ya man, throw on that turbojeff tray. Also do this lil mod found here https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...&highlight=moo. It will get rid of that long muffling pipe for the airpump that goes over your intake pipes. Then put on some polished intake pipes and an oil cap and you will be looking good. Oh and I just noticed you didn't have a front strut bar. Dude, pic one of those up. Helps alot with feel and looks.

I guess the "moo" mod was done a while ago as Dale's link does not work. I'll do a search.

I'm gonna check with RX7store to make sure those intake pipes will work for me.

I have a polished R1 strut bar for sale if you're interested. It'll look great in the engine bay. Here's what it looked like installed in my FD:

Also, you might want to consider picking up that "coil relocation bracket" in the upper right hand corner of that picture. It cleans the engine bay up a lot PLUS it's functional!!

st8, he has cruise control. I don't think coil relocation works if you have cruise control

str8ryd: You could be a cause of my longing to make the bay a little "blingy". Very nice. Very nice. Sent you a PM about the strut bar.

DMoney: Rubber chair stopper? I know the hose you are refering to, and on my car it just hangs down and vents whatever to the road below, so I have yet to hear any "moo", but it would be nice to delete it though. Is that Ebay kit the same as the RX7store kit? I've always been a little wary of Ebay.
