Help me from Downunder NZ
Hi fellaz,
I have just bought my first rotary!! Its a 1996 Mazda RX7 FD3S. I just wondering if you guys would be able to help me out. I have had the vehicle for a couple of days now and loving it although issues about the reliability and maintenence of them are starting to hit me. Dont get me wrong the car is great! The only thing is that I am loosing boost around the 4500RPM mark when the secondary turbo should kick in. I have heard that this is a common problem with the sequential turbochargers. Most of the people point towards the actuator and solenoids as the main cause of this. I am getting consistent boost in every gear from around 3500RPM but as soon as it goes over 4500 the boost just bleeds out. Just like to know if this can be easily fixed?
If anyone is from New Zealand and able to help or direct me to a good source that will be great!
Im not much of a mechanic when it comes to rotaries, so i guess i could call myself a noob.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Cheers, Andy

Welcome to the club, most guys in this forum including myself got to know the RX-7 before getting one. It gives you a better understanding and appreciation of maintaining it yourself with assistance from forum members.
Your boosting problem could be a simple fix or more detailed issue. Hard to say how much it'll cost, depending on how competent the mechanic is? Since it's running, avoid boosting and get more information before sending it to the shop.
We have heard many disappointed stories before and don't look forward for another.

update: had help from a local rotary specialist and found that the one way valve was broken, fixed with a bit a superglue for now and runs both turbos.
