beating someone by about 1 second is only about a car length win I'd estimate. If you run 12's (which we'll see if you post your mods) and he runs 13's then I don't understand what you are expecting.

Why would he get you when you shift? Do you have light flywheel? You need to keep your rpm up when shifting. Unless he doesn't need to shift at all, the shift transition is just speed and finess.

Sounds like he could be a better driver then you, maybe in the area of shifting. FDs don't lanch as well as others either. I tend to lose in the 0-30mph range, because I am limping the clutch out and going easy on the drive train. Once I hit 3000 in 1st. I dump it. Milk the 2nd gear shift, and dump it again. By the time I am rounding out 2nd and into 3rd I am well ahead of the other guy. Once 3rd kicks in full on, I have hit triple digit speeds and need to go to the brakes to avoid the traffic in front of me. I really like the 5th to 3rd gear down shifts on the freeway at speed. No one can keep up, not even bikes like past threads suggest. People buy supras to get off the line, they lanch better then the FD. Flame on if you wish.

Ohhhhh chills, Its soooo true. Because the boost just jumps and well lets just say those lights get small FAST behind you. All I can suggest are 9.5s in the back which I think is 285s or 295s. Or 9s flat. I heard it makes a good deal difference. Read some performance magazines and ask friends for suggestions on tires then lower the PSI a bit so you get a better launch.

chris-
get some fatty's in the back like me (275's), then the hookup is better, as long as you get decent tires. there are threads on here about launching techniques, just do a good ol' search.
and your car looked nice in the photos. but i need to see it in person. you coming to auto-x on sunday? pm me.

if he's running nos and a pro charger and you're still beating him, if that be by a lot of little, i still don't see why you're complaining.

Thumbs up Hey i got an option

Maybe you should look into a custom T3/T4 hybrib turbo, so that when you shift back and fourth it spools much quicker! Also look into the essentials i.e. (custom front mont intercoolers, pistons, rods, springs etc.) also look into taking your rev limiter off but be careful only do this if you are a professional enough driver not to blow a piston out the side of your block! Also another idea is to look into NOS's spool up kit for larger turbos, this way you can, inbetween shifts, be able to spool up that turbo so much quicker(trust me i have a modified 20b with a fat T-88h turbo and it spools like a supercharger, which have no spool, lolz,). Also maybe get your final gear rings replaced so you have better top speed! Also I know this is getting a bit long but look into a modified 6-speed Getrag transmission! Lolz, one more thing jus a tip between you and me rotary fanatics if you dont have a short shifter yet get one trust me on this, but also look at a 20b engine swap with ma favorite T-88h turbo;p

DONT DO THIS!!!

DONT EVER BUY AN LSD JUS IN CASE ANYONE EVER TELLS YOU TO. wanna talk about wheel slipage an lsd transfers all the power to on wheel(usually the passenger right) and you get what is called round here a "one wheel wonder";p email me id like to share some tips tensecond1320@hotmail.com

Actually people buy Supra's for max HP and top end speed. Most drag Rx 7's can go faster than Supra's with far less hp. A properly equipped FD on E/T streets will sink your eyeballs into your skull when launched from the line. Almost all of my friends have Supra's and none of them will race unless it a 80 mph pull on the freeway

Ok, I worded that wrong. Supras are easier to launch then FDs for the novice.
Yes people like supras for the large amounts of horsepower they have the potential to produce. Rotaries have the same potential they are just far more volatile and would likely have a shorter life span. True no highly modified car will last forever.
I don't agree with the faster part. They both will do 250 if you want them to. I place my bet on the FD in a drag race.
Why 80mph pulls only?

At what speed in 5th are you dropping to 3rd to take off with boost? I drop to 4th, but am paranoid dropping to third at the speed of 65-70.

compute the math, 12ft car, 105mph, how many feet will you cover in one second

at 105mph (5280feetx105) = distance covered in hour (554400feet)

so that is 9240feet a minute (554400/60=9240) , or (9240/60) 154 feet a second

sound right guys?

that's a bit more than a car length

why is my math wrong!!

^ umm ^ i dont think so. because that would work only if the other one isnt moving but if its going close to the same speed then you are only going to be a few feet infront. am i right?

Not quite, that is if you are at a constant speed of 105mph for 1 hour. It does not take into account building up to that point. if the FD is going 105mph at the "win" point, that is just a speed for that moment in time.

Wait....after thinking it over more....your calculations have nothing to do with the distance calculated between the two cars. I'm not arguing, I'm too tired for that, I just really don't think that is an accurate representation. Case in point.

1/4 mile = 1320feet

1320feet / 154feet per second = 8.57 second 1/4 mile.
