Help! Locked keys in car

Keys were in the ignition and the aftermarket alarm decided to lock the doors on me. Been meaning to make a copy of my key but didn't get around to it.
Called AAA, first guy tried to slim jim it, gave up.
Called locksmith, tried to pick lock but said it was a 10 pin tumbler and was nearly impossible, wanted to punch lock out. I said no way.
Called Mazda dealer, they said they could make me a key off my VIN on Monday.
Meanwhile car is half in driveway, half in street but not sticking out too bad.
Can't drive it or work on it this weekend like I planned.
Any words of wisdom?
Thanx!

Just wait til monday and concentrate on getting the last half of the car onto ur driveway.

I've heard other ppl having to break the window to get in there. Slim Jims and lockpicking always fail.

There was a thread like this a while back and it stated something along these lines if you peel the weatherstriping on the door back you can put a coat hanger threw and pull up on the lock button. Good luck.

Will this damage the weather stripping? It seems to be on there pretty tight.

same exact thing happened to me. i called the locksmith and he picked opened it like 2-rotor is saying. stuck a piece of plastic between the weatherstripping and door and shoved a hangar like thing to flip the door lock up. needless to say it did put a little ding in the weather stripping. i say just wait till monday for the mazda dealer. put some cones out by the car in the meantime....

I found it rediculously easy to break into my car w/o any damage. You are saying you are having a tough time with the weather stripping so maybe you've got a problem. I actually removed the entire part of the stripping. just be really careful. Then use needle nose pliars to grab one of the thin metal bars that go up to the lock. you need to push this bar upward. i think its the bar on the right...or you can try the bar on the left-pull it down. Thats it. That unlocks the door and sets off your factory alarm if yours is still hooked up.

As for the car hanging in the street... IF your driveway is level, I would get a floor jack, lift the car by the pumplin until the wheels are just clear of the ground, then push the car into the drive. But you can only get away with this if the drive is perfectly level.

The driveway is slanted. The car does not stick any further out into the street then the parked cars do, I'm not afraid of someone hitting it.

My factory alarm is not still setup.

As for removing the weather stripping, you mean along the top, and then get to the lock from the inside?

Widebody2: how do you get needlenose pliers inside the car, you mean to use those to remove the stripping?
Thanx!

I had a problem with the dealer cutting my keys from the vin. The computer called for a longer cut/key then what I had. I can't remember but the ones they cut would either unlock the doors and not turn the ignition or vise versa.

I keep 2 keys in my pocket. One on my keyring and I drive with a single key. When my last car was stolen from me they got my whole key ring with keys to my house and my parents vehicles. You also don't have all those keys gingling around.

you dont have to remove the stripping

take a screwdriver and CAREFULLY pry back the windo so you can fit a bent coathanger or wire with a hook on the end.. you can create enough space to get a coathanger inside...bend it to get the right angle as you go in...pull...wah lah...keys are out door is open.

dont break your effin window with the screwdriver though.

Ive done it a couple times and had no problems.

Sorry to hear about your situation...

This is why I always have at least 3 copies of all my car and house keys. I keep one on my "regular" keyring that I walk around with, one goes in my house, and one goes to my sister's house nearby.

That way I can always get back in my car or house or whatever if I lose the key (which I never have anyway )

I did the same thing. Had a lock smith come out and with all his different books and bent and twisted rods was unable to do it. Having worked on the doorlocks before i remembered where to place the rod and lift up. Took less than ten minutes. Email me at <cjjack@gru.net> and I'll see if I can direct you.

Glad you got in, but it is distressing to hear that it is that easy to get in.

yea in one way this story has a good side, on the other it is very disturbing to know it is so easy to open the vehicle.

most theives would either break the window or punch the lock out so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Ha.. I locked my keys in the car about a year ago.. and left it running. Seemed all too normal to lock it up and leave it with the turbo timer on. That's what I got for having too much crap in my hands. Anyway, USAA called a roadside assist guy, and he wedged the upper door frame away just enough to get a small air-bag wedged in there.. he inflated it with a small hand pump and that gave enough room to roll down the window.. (guess the door lock would have bene just as easy if the car wasn't on.) Took him less than 5 minutes.
