Help!..FD won't start after pulling out of garage

Hey Guys,

Looking for a bit of help. So today I pulled my fd out of the garage because I was painting some of the smaller parts. When I went to start it up tonight it hesitated and then started up but sounded like a single cylinder 4 stroke dirtbike. It cut out and now huffs and puffs but will not start.

I usually let it warm up to OT before I shut it down but I'm not sure if I did or not this time as I was in a rush. Could fouled plugs be the cause?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just to make things clear as mud:

Half tank of supreme fuel
Battery fully charged
Oil is full
Completely stock apart from autoexe intake and catback
Never had this problem before
I took it for a spin around the block last week after all winter. Worked perfectly

Thanks,

Hulan

Try cranking the car with the gas pedal pressed ALL the way to the floor.

It's possible the plugs are just wet. It's possible they are fouled if they are old, but that may be more of an extreme case. Another option:

I kind of thought that could be the issue. Just wanted to make sure. Any suggested brand of plug for stock engine?

Thanks again

It's flooded, they tend to be hard to start after sitting for a while. or being started and then shut off quickly.

look at the fuse box by the battery, the one in the middle should be the "EGI" fuse, pull that fuse out, hold the pedal on the floor and crank it for 30 seconds. Get a friend to pop the fuse back in while you crank it the second time, it should fire, sometimes they are stubborn when flooded. I find my FD has a sweet spot in the throttle that makes it start better when flooded about 1/3 down.

any time i have to start my car and shut it off without it warming up I always rev it to 2k hold it there and turn it off then hold down the accel right after i turn it off.
My reasoning is that it will push any gas out the exhaust. Ive never had any issues with flooding.

I haven't had this issue before. I always make time to let it warm up before shutting it down. kind of a pain, but that's it. I will try this if I ever have to shut it down quickly again see if it helps. I guess the plugs were old and the one time I shut it off early they pop.

New plugs today and we'll see what happens.

So I live in the middle of nowhere... Called everywhere possible and nobody has the plugs. I found them online and have ordered them.

In the meantime. I removed the current plugs and they are soaked in gas. A fireball came from the torch when I burned all the gas off. Torched them, cleaned them in brake cleaner and put them back in.

Car started up and ran fine. After about a minute on idle, it sputtered and cut out again.

I repeated the plug cleaning again only this time, when the car started i ran it at 2k rpm for a few seconds. let it warm up to OT and it idles great.

It might just need a good run to clean it out where it was sitting all winter. Too bad it's snowing here tonight...

Thanks for the help everyone!!

Much appreciated.

I hear that the receipe in fuel as change and a lot of FD as not start because of the fuel. I have take no chance with mine, flush the old gaz and put it in my daily and get some fresh gaz for the FD.

I take this on Rxquébec forum!

I have good luck pull starting flooded cars. It will save your starters and gets them started pretty quick.
