Exclamation Help! Failing air pumps!

I'm rapidly becoming the Man of a Thousand Air Pumps. Has anyone else experienced repeated air pump failures? The original one failed 6 months ago...and now the (used) replacement has also failed. Locked up tight, taking everything in its path with it. Is there a *reason* why it keeps happening? (And is there a reason why the new ones are $900 from the dealer?)

Much obliged,
Mark.

Do you still have the stock intake box? Apparently, open air intakes cause the air pump to deteriorate quicker.

if it just seized then try finding the BEARING at fault. i dought you can go to mazda to repace the bearing but you could try mcmaster-carr or something like that.

Preach on Series7!!! Airpumps are over rated!! But I do understand that you are in MD and that you have to pass emissions. There are ways around that though. Just lean the car out BIG time right before you let them use the sniffer. I've seen guys pass with a midpipe and no airpump by doing that. Just be careful and set it back right after you're finished!! Hope that helps.
