BC help choosing IGN Amp

Hi guys, i have my fuel system and turbo upgraded, so i am in search for a good IGN upgrade, i see some options online but i have hard time understanding what they actually do adnd wat are the differences from one to the others, so i hope some people here can give me a little help:

A> i have a MSD DIS-4 at home from my old car but i dunno how to have it wired in for roatry;
B> HKS twin-power, seems to be a common upgrade but it's kinda too small to be pwrful IGN amp;
C> Jacob F1000, i think it only amplify the leading coil, dont know how it works on FD with 2 coils.

again, any helpful information is appreciated, thx and have a great day.

There are many threads to read if you search on this board.

However, unless you have enormous horsepower goals, buy the Twin Power and call it a day. (And I've no idea what 'kinda too small to be pwrful' means.)

If you post more info about your FD it would be very helpful.....ie what kind of turbo, what kind of boost, rwhp dynoed etc.

Despite it's small size, you'll be shocked to learn that the Twinpower works VERY well for just about any FD street car. Get the jumper harness for an easy install and call it a day.

oh, i meant the HKS modeule itself seems too small to be a ignition amp, but u're rite, gettting the HKS may not be the best, but definately easiest way to go. i did alot of search here and many ppl use HKS, however, no one gives any info on MSD or Jacob on FDs.

Where did you find a lot of threads about Twin Power failures?

The Twin Power is about $350, installs in minutes with an FD specific harness, and is ultra reliable. It is pretty much the default choice for FDs unless the owner has huge horsepower goals, in which case a custom system is usually required.

im still on twin power and stock coils at 595whp.

dis-4 will not work on 4 channels on a rotary and you'll need new coils with jacobs (leading).

At what point is it a good idea to help the stock ignition system?..I was getting breakup while tuning for 14 on the stock twins, so I replaced the coil. Have'nt went back yet, but am hoping the breakup was not due to the system not being enough.

Help is really never a BAD idea, but when is it necessary? If you are still getting breakup with the new coils and the plugs/wires are also new then I would invest in the HKS. Although I would not really expect you to be getting breakup at 14psi on the stock twins. On the other hand even though you are not getting breakup, it may help smooth things out a bit with those 850cc primaries you are running.

To the OP, I think the HKS is you best bet. Like mentioned above, it suits most everyone' s needs on there and there are those that make big power on it. A few have built custom ignition systems replacing the stock coils with upgraded (and complex) setups. Search around, I have seen a few writeups. They are probably better than that hks, though they are far more expensive and complex, not to mention a bit overkill for most of us.

A cheaper option is an MSD 6a. You can find a used one on Ebay for under $100. Only needs to run the leading coils.
