You try seeing if you need radiator fluid?

YES. but the over flow doesn't hold water. it just leaks right out the resovoir.

Do a search. It could be several different things. It's probably your radiator or thermostat. Start by checking those. You might also want to consider doing the fan mod.

ALL FD run hot in stop and go traffic unless you live in alaska. This is due to the faqct that the stock ECU tells the fans to come on around 220F which is pretty hot. Fixes for this include Aftermarket ECU such as a PFC where you can set the temps or doind a fan mod of some sort. Personally im biased towards the Voodoobox one. Hope that helps.

Hmm...I would check if your fans are coming on soon enough or even working at all. After driving, park your car and let it idle. Sit in front of the car and wait and see if you fans come on.
Also, try driving around w/ the parking lights on. When the lights are on, the fans come on sooner.

I had the same problem w/ my car.
Coolant would leak out of the top of the reservoir. It turned out that my coolant seals have gone bad.
I hope you don't end up like me. I am currently putting in a reman engine.
Do you get an ADD COOLANT light?

Does anyone know where to get the upgraded thermostat that makes the engine run at lower temps?

This is very true! He said himself he has a relitivly new radiator, meaning the old one busted and fryed the coolant seals causing the resivoir to over flow, or he just did a maintanence mod. But anyway my point is to burp the system. Run the car for a while fill it back up. I had to do this for 2 weeks straight, now it's fine. My car would do fine on the highway and in traffic it would raise a litte, even when it was just a tad low I could see the difference in the temp needle. Get those air pockets out IN BOTH AST and RADIATOR. Fill both yellow caps.

You can remove the thermostat during the summer, which allows the water to flow constantly..
See the thermostate is basicly just just a gate that opens when it get to a certain temprature. I take mine out during the summer and put it back in during the winter.. [btw way I only do it on my dail driver piston car =]

How are you determining that your car is running hot in stop and go traffic? Factory temp gauge? Aftermarket? Or just feels hot under the hood? If the factory temp gauge is on the climb i'd be worried, same w/ an aftermarket gauge. If you just feel the radiant heat from the engine bay when you're at a light, that's not necessarily all that uncommon, these cars burn hot. As far as water leaking out of the overflow, I had the same issue until I realized that I had overfilled the system. The overflow will only hold so much. If you fill the reservoir full when the engine is cool, then run the car, you're going to get some spill over. Use the crappy dipstick incorporated in the cap to see what level it's at.

Good luck-

Andy

If the coolant seals are worn out you'll get serious steam like exhaust for the first few minutes after start up that may or may not smell like antifreeze depending on your mix and it will most likely be difficult to start. If thats not happening then your seals are fine. Open the cap each night and in the morning top it off. If that doesn't work check your thermostat while your there drill a couple of small holes to improve the flow. If that doesn't work check the water pump. If that doesnt work see your local rotary professional
