help: cant check CEL codes. no flashes

i tried to check my engine codes to see if i have problems with my fd because the max boost im getting from my turbos is 8.5-9 psi.

i read many guides on how to check and followed the instructions, connected a wire from 10 to gnd and then turned the ignition to ON.

now i waited for the CEL codes but i just get a solid CEL light the entire time along with abs light and the two other red lights, CEL never flashes

i read that if theres no codes the CEL would turn off after a few seconds, but my CEL stays on the entire time along with the other 3 lights(abs, battery etc).

ps. my diagnostic box doesnt have a cover since i bought my fd, could something be wrong with my diag box

also on the boost problem, my boost never reaches 10 psi not even on the first turbo
or 2nd. max is 8.5-9 what do you guys think it could be? clogged exhaust?

thanks for the help

More info on your car would be helpful. Mods, mileage etc. Did you have a CEL before checking them? And it might be stupid question, but do you have a totally stock ECU?

You've probably realized this by now, but if you don't have a CEL, you're probably not going to have any codes either. Could be something as simple as needing to clean/replace your intake filters- have you checked the obvious stuff yet?

The engine codes are helpful, but with boost problems you normally won't find anything out. Start going through the boost troubleshooting - make sure the rubber coupler at the Y-pipe isn't split (VERY common), make sure your spark plugs are fresh, check for any popped off vacuum lines, etc.

The engine codes are typically best for finding general starting/driveability problems with the main engine sensors. Most anything else it will just tell you if it's not plugged in or something really hairbrain.

so the light is on all the time you are driving??? but it will not flash a code for you?

without a printout for the diag box how do you know what you are grounding??? any squeeling noises?? could be a boost leak

Seem's to me if I understand is that when he checks for the codes the CEL is staying illuminated. I would suspect that since his car is completely stock (his words) it would be the precat and or the main cat clogging and limiting his boost. He's got 8.5 to 9psi so he's getting 90% and he's not saying he's having any problems with transition just not making full boost. Get a downpipe and see what happens. If your planning on keeping the current precat and main cat then you may look at changing the waste gate pill to a slightly smaller one and see if that will increase you boost.
