HELP!!! 3rd & 4th gear 6500 rpm hesitation??
Hi everybody!
I've been having this annoying problem for months now. It seems that when I pull it on the freeway either on 3rd or 4th gear, my 7 would pull real strong until right around 6 - 6.5k rpm and STOPS pulling!!! I mean it just feels like as if the fuel has been cut off. I called Rick's rotarytwo months ago and described the situation to him, he told me that my clutch is probably slipping. So I had a Mazdatrix SS HD clutch and a RB steel flywheel put in, and the problem is still there!! Well, this past Sunday I was reading some of the old archives and figured that I should change my spark plugs, so I put in some NGK 9s and 7s. Today it finally stopped raining so I took my car out for a test drive to see whether or not the problem has been fixed. As soon as I hopped on the freeway, there was this camaro SS and a mustang GT cutting around on the left, so I thought it would be an interesting race with the SS. By the time I got behind him, there was traffic in front. He wanted a race with my 7 so he slowed down to allow room for us to go. When I saw an opening to the right, I cut over and the race was on! I was just about to pass him and guess what? The hesitation is still there!!! NO! Well, I started the race so I can't look all stupid and stop, so I shifted to 4th and we pull even when I reached 6k in 4th. And of course the mustang GT was no competition. Good race though, but now the guy in the camaro SS thinks he's got game with a 7 running 12 psi. It really sucks knowing that if the problem wasn't there, I would've smoked both the GT and the SS and earned lots of respect. Anyone know of this problem and possibly the solution??? I'll appreciate any inputs or suggestions.
P.S. Sorry for the long post, but I thought the whole story was kinda interesting.
Thanks,
Adrian

Do you have a Power FC? My car did the same exact thing at 6.5K in 3rd and 4th gear and it felt like a fuel-cut but from talking to Dave at KDR he says it's actually detonation and the Power FCs come with timing maps that are too high. Quick fix with programming but if you don't have a PFC then maybe it is you fuel cutting out.

Plugs?
When you replaced the plugs with the 9's and 7's were they brand new ones and were they platinums or just the Q steels? If you tried to use the steel plugs you may be getting some pinging or detonation from the heat generated by the hotter range 7's. You may consider going to a set of BUR9EQP's all around, the cooler heat range helps ward off detonation because it doesn't absorb heat as well and maintains a good spark. They will foul a little faster but it's worth it. You may even try installing a set of Race plugs. If the problem still exists then you may check elsewhere, ie fuel filter, fuel delivery system. The race plugs are virtually gapless and will ignite very well. If the hesitation goes away, you may consider getting an ignition amp or check to see that the lead coil isn't going out... Just give it a shot, you may get somewhere.

i know ive seen this posted just recently, and dis1 replied and hit it on the nose your hitting the fuel cut...your running 13psi on a stock ecu. ARE U NUTS!!!!!!! its not happy with that..so it cuts fuel so u cant mess it upo any more..turn boost down to 10psi and see if it still continues...
or buy a ecu and dont worry abt lowering the psi..
bottom line the more u do it the more likley your gonna pop the motor..turn the boost down
yup here it is
