help

ok, i did a swap, changed computers and all, to the manual one, and i kept the same rpm gauge, it redlines at 7000 rpms (auto), so my question is, how are my rpms reading? like if im at 2000, is the ecu reading 2500? or is it right, and can i go past my redline of 7000, to 7500, like manual cars?

next, i have a sputtering, cutting out problem, and around 2000 rpms, my car cuts out bad, like it is not getting gas, backfires when i let off the gas, no smoke really, and the check engine light blinks on, any clues, i have new plugs, wires, checked my coil packs, good, vacuum hoses, any ideas, im about to go crazy here, idles good though, thanks

The ecu and tachometer should be reading the same, I don't see it being off as far as 500RPM, so yes it's safe to rev out to as high as 8k if you want.

As far as your cuting out problem, try cleaning your injectors.

thanks kyle@insight,

lets all put together and figure out my problem, ok i did my swap, from auto to manual, and this problem came with the first crank after the swap, i sat for like 2 months, so, i dont know, im 99% sure that tranny swap went good and correct. i have a sputtering, cutting out problem, and around 2000 rpms, my car cuts out bad, like it is not getting gas, backfires when i let off the gas, no smoke really, and the check engine light blinks on, but if i drive the car for about 15 min of changing gears at 2000 rpms, to prevent bucking, the car drives fine, (with the occational buck) as long as i keep my foot on the gas, and dont let off, and flies!

i have new plugs (which were in there for like 300 miles, and i pulled them the other night, and they were covered in black carbon)

new wires

coil packs checked out good

i have replaced like 75 % of the vacuum hoses

i got a new fuel filter on the way (i just cut the old one open, and it had, like black gas in it, pretty dirty)

so next i guess i will pull the injectors, i have ran cleaner through them, but no luck, but i really dont want to pull them, so any other ideas?

thanks,

paul

Paul,

The main problem is that it very well could be something from the conversion. As you already know, there aren't a lot of people here that could help with that.

If the car was running fine before the conversion, and now it doesn't, I would start rechecking your work on the conversion (especially the wiring). Seems to me that people get the components part of the conversion fine, but the wiring is the tricky part. I think I remember reading that cover8 needed to send his wiring harness to KDR to have it properly terminated.

The only thing it could be off the top of my head could be the 1-2 swich and neutral switch. Its pretty common for that to be overlooked. I have a haltech or I'd help more.

mahjik and cosborne, well i agree with the both of you, i mean i dont know what else it could be, other than the wiring, and something not terminating correctly, i dont think know one knows how much time i have put into this conversion, i mean, overall it was easy, but i have had to go back and check myself a million times, the tranny has been out 4 times, and so on, and i have been doing things to the car, that are tottally unrelated to the conversion, in hopes of fixing my problem.

i have been told that the 1-2 switch, and the neutral switch are not needed, but i just dont know anymore, seems like im missing something.

mahjik, if u would, could u give me some more info, on this KDR, how to contact, and what exactly i need to sens them, and what to ask of them? u would be a life saver if you could help here, cause im learning as i go, i mean, i didnt even know what an rx7 was 6 months ago, now i think i have the vacuum hose diagram memorized, and i can drop a tranny, have a clutch in, and put it all back together in about 45 min now

thanks for everthing yall, im not giving up on this car!

COsborne posted up the site for KDR. I believe it's Dave who is the owner and the person you should speak with (someone correct me if I'm wrong)....

IMO, I would verify the wiring before doing anything else. Once you can rule that out, it will make troubleshooting (if there are any other problems left) MUCH easier.

well if ur ever this way, we can meet up and, ride around, and make everyone wish they had our cars, we need to have a big rx7 convention thing, like they do with corvettes, wait, do they have this already for our cars? has some one not told me this?
