Height adjustment or lowering of seat?
Finally drove my first FD last night and just loved it! The only problem I could see was that the seat was too high/roof too low. I am 6'3"-4 and my head was brushing the roof and my legs had to splay around the wheel. My question was whether the seats were adjustable in height or is there a way I could lower the seat a couple of inches, i.e. change the way the seat is mounted to bring it down.
Has anyone tried this/or is the height adjustable, let me know?
Thanks in advance!

OEM seats are not height adjustable....
maybe you can take out some padding..
bolt them directly to the floor (loose adjustment ability)
Get a smaller steering wheel (d-cut) shape to help with the legs part
or wait till you are older...when you start to shrink

Okay, I thought that I would have to fabricate. Does anyone know if the seat rails are on "blocks" or are they mounted directly to the floorpan? If they are on "blocks" I could just fabricate shorter blocks and re-weld them to the floor. I also need to create room for a helmet, so the seat must be dropped. Further, I would like to retain the stock seats, they were great and this car would be used more as a cruiser than a track car anyway.

Hi,
I have looked at this quite a few times, the seat rails are bolted directly to the floor, there are no blocks. The only way to get a little more room would be to delete the sliding track and bolt the seat directly to the floor. I am 6"1 and my helmet touches the roof in the correct driving position so you are going to have trouble getting enough head room no matter what you do.

helps if you can find a model without a sunroof. I'm 6'3 and I fit in my R1 with room for a helmet. However, I am going to buy a different steering wheel. It is really hard to get in and out.

Exactly why I recommended getting a different wheel...
I'm only 5'8" but have Sparco Milano's(supersports) in my car on OEM sliders... extremely hard getting out without rubbing my thighs on the wheel.. Have a mazdaspeed D-cut wheel going on soon

Sliders directly to the floor pose a major problem. What about swapping the seats out for those from a Miata? I seem to remember them having a lower chair height. The colors should be similar and there is more room in the RX than the miata for the seat. As for the sunroof issue there are not that many base models or R1s out there so that will be tough to find one in good condition to boot. The rubbing of the legs is a lesser issue, but can be solved with the D-wheel.
Thanks to all so far, keep it coming.

I just answered my own question, I found a miata site that swapped the RX seat for the stock miata seat and is was a direct match. The question then obviously becomes whether the seat in the miata is actually lower? Does anyone know?
