GA Heater issue. Im freezing.

Okay so my heat does work. But only on the floor and defrost. The fan works fine on all speeds. The mode selector... floor, vent, def., vent. also works fine. But if i have it on heat and blowing from the dash vents it only blows cold. The AC blows fine thru the dash vents and switches floor and def. fine also. What the gives a blend air door would affect either the heat or cold and the mode works fine so why am I only loosing heat on the dash vents. What is this logicon thing I kept reading about and how does it actually function and do. Thanks.

No, you can set it to run hot air out the vents as well. It's not limited to just the floor and defrost.

I find that very hard to believe as mine blew hot air from the vents just fine...

Perhaps mine was modified?

It's probably a difference between "warm air" and "heated air". Heated air doesn't blow through the "face vents" as they are referred to.. However, "warm air" can blow through them, especially during the summer.

You're probably right.

During the winter I would run the heat on both feet and face. I don't recall being blasted with fire from the front vents, but it was warm and it kept the cab very nice. My feet, however, were on fire!

Thanks for the link; very interesting.

Wow, that's special. Floor and defrost only...Oh well. I guess I'll find out soon, as I haven't even had the chance to drive it this cold season yet (we don't exactly have a winter on the gulf coast ). Car's almost done!

Physics. Heat rises. Eventually, your face will get warm.

FD Heat

The heat in my FD also barbeques people's feet and is only somewhat warm coming out through the vents by the radio. This is with the selector set for Feet+Face with the dial turned all the way hot.

If you ask me, it's not a good system because it puts too much hot air on your feet and makes them feel like they are on fire.

I'm ok with most of the heat coming from the floor and defrost vents.

Yeah that is the same thing that I noticed. My legs look like burnt match sticks when im done driving. So they designed the car to have no vent heat? That if you ask me is a stupid design. Im a wuss when it comes to the cold though. Well guys thanks for the help. I guess I will just have to join the brotherhood of burnt feet.

It seems this question is asked ALMOST as often as "what oil should I use?", it just amazes me still that FD owners haven't taken the time to familiarize themselves with the features of the car. And if one has spent more than about a week browsing this forum, one would have seen this question and the answer many times already.

I know its frustrating to see the same posts all over the board. Keywords dont always narrow the search down perfect. Im a certified mechanic so being familiar with cars is not usually an issue. This is just one of the first cars that I have ever come across that DOES NOT have vent heat. I know RX7s are a strange breed and its my first one so there are going to small things that I have never seen. Just thought that there was something wrong with the heat.

As others have said, when I drive in cold weather, I use the combination of defroster and foot heat. That seems to work quite well for me. I addition, warm, dry air blowing in my eyes dries them out to the point of being uncomfortable, so I actually like to use the foot/defrost combo, and, because of that, I do it even on other cars that have vent heat if I want it.

Mazda and many other car manufacturers of the time designed the heating system not to blow hot air through the center dash vents. The mentality was hot air in the face promotes sleepiness. If you ask me its a stupid idea. I want heat where I want it. To get the most heat set it to the floor and defroster. I have been in 1 or 2 rx-7s that did blow hot air through the center dash vents though.

Look at that you learn something new everyday. I always wondered why the hell no heat was coming through the face vents. It wasnt hot but just warm.

Thanks guys
