Heater core

My heater core has sprung a leak and since they are nla I took it to a radiator repair shop to have it looked over. Well, they said it needs to be re-cored and quoted over $400

I've searched the forum and couldn't find an alternative solution or any type of replacement heater core from a different vehicle that would work.

I want heat in the car. Anyone here have suggestions? Or am I going to have to just fork over the cash?

The price of metal went up so much in the last few years. I was quoted a price to recore my FB radiator that was 4x the cost of an ebay aluminum radiator.

I'd try for a used unit somewhere, maybe the marketplace or WTB post on the facebook groups. I'm not aware if anything interchanges with another car, I'm almost certain it won't.

Yep. Not really much in the way of good options. May want to see if there's shops online you can send it to and have them fix.

$400 is high if it's just a weld up of the leak. Not bad if they take it apart, clean the crap out of it, totally overhaul it, etc.

Yeah I forgot to mention that on top of it failing the pressure test they said it was pretty clogged up on the inside as well. So they would have to do a full refurb

I may hit up tomsn and see if he has a low mileage core laying around. Too many miles on one and I might end up right back where I started lol
