heater control ****
My heater temp control **** is misaligned for some reason, the cool/hot position is not where they are suppose to be. My mechanic thinks this has something to do with the water rushing noise I'm hearing inside the heatercore.
Does anyone know the diagnostic procedure for proper heater control unit operation? I can't find it in the mazda fsm.

The heater control has nothing to do with the rushing water noise - that's air trapped in the cooling system, plain and simple.
Is the **** shifted to one side a bit or something?
There should be a procedure in the body electrical troubleshooting manual for testing the heater control. It's definitely in the real paper shop manual that I'm sure you have

The underside of the **** is misaligned.
Grab the **** and pull it straight back to remove it. Behind it will be a small bolt the secures the **** shaft. That bolt has probably come loose. To align the temp properly, make sure the bolt is loose, and rotate the **** until the little square appears in the hole. With the **** off, you will understand these directions. Once the little square appears in the hole, tighten the bolt, and replace the ****.
This repair will take about a minute

I just tried adam's procedure. The weird thing is no matter how far I turn the shaft, it always wants to spring back to the original (wrong) position, to get the shaft into the new position I'd have to force the shaft to turn really hard. Is this normal?
mine seems like when I try to engage the heat.... sometimes it doesn't work properly and no heat comes out.... after I shut the car off....(came home)... next day when I put my key position to ignition I can hear the heater vents changing position to the heater....
Do I have a bad connection???
