headlights goin up and down crazy

Hey guys, I got a problem.

When I washed my car last night, my headlights started goin crazy, they just go up and down even when the car is off. Anyone know where the relay is I cuda tagged with water possibly that wud make them do this?

Anyoneever have this problem? Temporarily I pulled the 30a headlight fuse, but when night time hits, this is not gonna be good, any help on things to look at/for, thanks!

IIRC, there are limit switches at the ends of travel to tell the relays when to turn off or on. Maybe one of those is wet/shorted, etc.

he's talking internal to the light housing...sounds like a short somewhere. I think I remember a thread about this happening, and the head light relay had water in it or something similar. has your car been soaked lately?

If you hit the button to raise them (next to the fuel gauge), will they stay up? If so it'll let you drive the car until it dries out...

itll go up for a sec if i turn the headlights to on or hit that button. then about 10 seconds later, itll start goin nuts again. Temporarily i turned the light switches to on, so they are up, then i pulled the fuse for the motors, so now they are stuck up. and i can still use the headlights when i want. But then it looks ghetto during the day =\

Yes the car was soaked recently...where is the relay?

i guess most likely it would be the retractable relay, because the headlights still work fine.

It's the long thin black box that runs along the top of the radiator or by the hood latch. Lots of times water gets in the box and the relay goes crazy. This happened to me as my box was installed upside down allowing it to retain water. Flipped the box around and dried everything out and problem fixed.
