Headlight Relay

First of all I already searched. My headlights arent coming on. The retractor button still brings up the headlights but they will not turn on. I also know that the relay is not bad because I switched it with a fan control relay and I get the same results. The headlight relay also makes a constant loud clicking sound. Any ideas I would greatly appreciate. Thanks.

Check for any popped fuses, loose wires, and water around the relays. There's a relay by the driver side shock tower, also check the headlight motors.

loud clicking?? rapid fire? sounds like a short in the wiring from the dimmer switch...if both relays act in the same mannor.

I know it isn't the relay. It's not the motors either because they pop up with the retractor button. A short is definitely possible. Anyone know where those wires travel after they disappear into the wiring harness? Thanks.

I had to troubleshoot this on a friend car.
It appears the headlight/dimmer switch or the wiring of it is flaky.
When you knock on the dimmer stalk, it will start clicking, otherwise it will just stay off.
We think the wiring inside the stalk is broken. You may want to check yours.

Will the headlights flip up when your turn the headlights on with the headlight switch (not just the retractor button). If not I would look into the headlight switch itself, and it's wiring.

The headlights will not pop up with the headlight switch. I dont think the headlight switch is bad because the relay goes crazy when I flip that switch. I guess I need to just tear in to the wiring harness. I can't wait. Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions keep them coming.

Well, now the lights wont pop up with the retractor button. So, I am not getting any response out of the headlight switch or the retractor button.

Maybe you snapped the fuse or the wiring got very pissed?

UPDATE: Wiring was shot behind the headlight on top of the driver side tire. There was damage there before apparently and the person that fixed it just twisted the wires together and put electrical tape on it. So I redid the wiring with connectors and heat shrink tubing and now all is well. Thanks for your input.

The same thing started happening to mine over the past few months. Headlamps flip up, but no light. Tracked it down to a corroded relay behind the drivers headlamp. Water got in there and rusted it out.

But where do they sell this type of odd relay?
