Headlight cover fix??

Ok, while driving home from Fairfax, my ps headlight cover decides to pop up and and say "HI!". Frick! I pull over and pull it off, there was duct tape that kept it from flying off. And and very nice MKIV flys buy me. DAMN!!
The PO already "fixed" the cover once with epoxy and tape so doing it again would be pretty messy and near impossible.
Right now I've feelin' extra cheap(my wife bitches everytime a package comes to the house from Ray).
After examining the cover and the headlight housing, it looks like it would be possible to drill holes on the sides of the cover and housing to keep the cover securely in place. It seems to me that fasteners on the sides of the cover would keep it much more securely in place than the stock locations.
Any reason why I shouldn't screw/bolt the cover in?

JB Weld...

I'd have to look at it Yoshi, but it'll be a few weeks before I can make it over there...even though it's only a few miles.

However, you COULD drop the car off at my house for a couple of...days and I can take a look at it.

Or you could have the package sent to my house. I prefer option number 1 for obvious reasons, but eh, you may choose the latter for even more obvious reasons.

LOL, thanks. But if expoxy would be hard to use, how would JB Weld be any better. Plus I'm thinkin' screwin' the sides of the cover to the housing would be a better solution. When are you gonna be home, maybe I can make a "pitstop" at your place...

i wouldnt jump the gun as to drilling is the easyest way out of this. cause i know you and you like to keep your car clean so why do something to make it look hood rich ? heh .
is your head light mounted just like a 2nd gen? cause i didnt get a good look last time i was up there. if it was me id zip tie it.....but i cant finalize that without a good look at that head light cover.

Well asthetically, the bolts/screws won't look too bad and they'll only be visible when the headlights are up. Here's a few pics of the assembly:
from the top

This side is in direct contact with the cover. I circled where I'd put 2 bolts/screws

This side has a gap between the cover and the assembly so I'd need a long screw/bolt

This is the cover:

I'd prefer to use bolts vs screws because I think bolts would hold better. However I don't know if I'll be able to put everything back together if I use bolts and have to reinsert the guts with the cover on.

Anyone have an opinion on whether or not this is a good idea?

Yoshi, I think you can do that plan that you have if you find the right bolt, then make sure it sits flush with the plastic and fill it in and spot paint it. Nobody will see the repair.

Well, I decided against screwing in the sides of the cover. Instead I fabbed up a couple of brackets and placed them in the location of the original tab. Used half a glue stick. The upper/lower single tab was pretty decent, so I hot glued that back on.

I go back to NoVa this Sunday. We'll see how it holds up on I95.

Update

After driving my FD for 7 hours back and forth from NoVa, the hot glue started to give. So I took off the homemade brackets and used some JB Weld to secure them in place. Yeah, JB rocks. I'm alot more confident with the cover staying on now.

Oh, until I redid the brackets in JB, I didn't realize that there was a fourth bracket place. I made a third bracket and JB'd it on. This bitch ain't goin' nowhere!
