tell me if i got screwed

Hey yeah, ok i just got my FD, and i am already running into problems... im not new to rotary, however, i am new to the 13b rew, for about a year or so i had been dealing with problems with my FC, which was non-turbo, but i finally saved up enough to pick up a cheap FD,. I pulled it for 7200, and it had 94000 on the motor. The previous owner claimed that the coolant level sensor had gone bad, and its an easy 20$ fix. so i figure eh, good deal. So i drive the car around, and i really like it,. then i paid for it, and decide its time to drive it home. its about a 2 hour drive home. soon as i hit the highway for the first time ever in a twin turbo car, i immediately hit the gas a little harder, and i begin to lose power. The whole time the gauges read that im running really hot, but the guy said that it was just the sensor. So here i am going, but i couldnt get over 60mph, then drops to 40, and eventually im stopped along side of the highway. The battery was a cheap Everstart battery, so i figure it could be that, so I got a new one, the old one did check out as bad. So with a new battery, i thought im ready to go home, but then no good still. I push start the car, and again, top out at 60, then 40, then stop, but this time, my dad in the car behind me says that the exhaust was flaming like crazy, yet i couldnt notice a thing, or smell anything, which led me to believe its strictly in the exhaust, and it could be clogged, or something. So i left it there over night, and dollied it home the next day, and now i am scared to touch it. i have no idea what it could be, but im praying to god its not the motor. any similar problems? thanks to anybody.

Sounds like you got screwed. Your fault for not getting the car checked out thoroughly. Could be any number of things going wrong. I suggest that you go to your regional forum, and ask for recommendations on a good rotary shop in your area.

Hopefully the problem will not be a costly one to repair.

well even if it is the motor, if the rest of the car is in good shape you still got a pretty good deal!

Sticky this thread in the 3rd Gen for sale section..

..It can serve as a perfect example for all those people who want/can only spend $8000-9000 on an FD.

Well if you decided to drive the car 2 hours with a supposedly *known* bad coolant level sensor why wouldn't you replace that before you drive it? It does sound like maybe you got taken, but you have no way of proving that now since you drove it off after paying for it.

For $7200 you didnt get screwed, however....

you did get by the guy who sold you the car. Just on principle you should go back and demand some money back. Dont get me wrong, keep the car but try to get at least another G back for having to go through that. You were under the impression that you were buying a perfectly running car with only the thermostat problem.....right?

Post some pics

Where in Texas do you live, as there are some good ones in some cities.

I got screwed by the guy who sold me the car and the mechanic that inspected/rebuilt the engine and was vouching for it. Only I paid more than twice what you paid, so I wouldn't be totally disappointed.

FYI coolant level sensor is $90 some new from Ray at Malloy. I just got a new one cause mine had a broken wire.

You better get it checked out in a hurry so you don't end up making a bad problem worse.

Yeah, it cant be a bad sensor. The sensor wouldn't read at all if it were bad.

I had to drive 30miles on I-95 with one rotor before. I didn't care since I had a new engine and turbo set-up waiting at home anyway. Mine did 120mph on one rotor.

You have a few options to take your car to in Texas to have the motor rebuilt, www.GothamRacing.com and www.RX7.com being 2 of the best in the country.

based on your current situation, you should have stayed in texas. At least you can get a good cup of coffee . On a serious note, you'd be well served to flatbed the car down to texas if you want the work done right. There are perhaps 5 rotary shops in the entire country I would let lay hands on my FD if I didn't do all my own work.

I think Pineapple racing is somewhere in Oregon. Not sure if they work on cars.

ok ok... no good news, so i was showin a friend my piece car, and he wanted me to turn the motor, so i fired it up, and since my exhaust is disconnected at the cat, i could see radiator fluid leaking out of the exhaust. =( that most likely means i blew the motor, eh? sigh...................... now what? rebuild? swap? which is cheaper? i see 13b re cosmo motors cheaper than the jdm 13b rew's on ebay, why are the cosmo's cheaper? if its 1500 for the motor and all the stuff, how much is it gonna cost to get it dropped in? damn, too many questions... any masterminds out there...?
