headlight cover on 93' rx7

i recently found a 93 rx7, bought it , everything is amazing on it.

engine has only 20,000 miles on it , transmission has 80,000 and the body has 95k.

everything runs fine, paint is good, but i was driving down the highway at night ... so i turned my lights on, and when the headlights flipped up, BOTH of the covers to them FLEW off on the highway, and there was traffic ... so no way to turn around or anything and get them..

i've been to the mazda dealership and they're asking 129$ EACH plus painting them of course.

does anyone know of / have any suggestions on any cheaper solutions to get this fixed?

having a sexy car with no headlight covers looks trashy ....

There is no real gain accept for cosmetics. If you like one of the aftermarket ones better, grab one. However, they typically only sell the passenger side one as they add a vent in it for the intake.

i'd say just bite the bullet and get a sleek (non pop-up) headlight kit

The headlight bucket covers on this age of car are very prone to fracturing around the attachment points. I used JB Weld and some thin washers to reinforce mine, and they haven't come off since.

Understood, but I was thinking if you find some used ones in the 'For Sale' section they will likely need some reinforcement.

Damn 10 year thread bump. I just retrofitted some projectors with HIDs in my lights and while I was test fitting my wife let me 18month old son play in my car. As I was fitting them in, he flipped the headlight switch and both cracked right off. Now I'm looking for replacements. I'd like CF but I'm not a fan of the vented ones. I can't find non vented ones. :/

Buy new. Don't get a used pair, as more than likely they will already have cracks where the rear screws hold the covers in place.

I just replaced both of mine. One flew off and the other was ready to leave the nest too.

Like bajaman, I reinforced the **** out of both of my new ones before I sent them to the painter, but I used epoxy. I have a feeling they'll be around for awhile.

But yeah, wear part for sure. Plastic tabs that have been baked by rotary (and headlight) heat for 25 years are brittle.
