headlight confusion

My OEM headlight cover on the passenger side finally broke it is hangin on by a thread. The car was painted when i bought it but not the factory color red so getting another OEM cover and painting it, isn't my first choice. I NEED HELP should I go with a complete conversion or just buy some carbonfiber covers? I like the conversion better but wich one's are good, n bad. the carbon fiber replacement's would look a lil cheesy on the car by their selves anaway and r pricy i from what i have seen, I just want to get the best bang for my buck, some other opionions would be awsome thanks guys!!

You could get the CF covers. I personally don't care for the look though. Hood is fine but CF covers make for a dorky look IMO. But it's your car so you should do what you like. Also, a good body shop should be able to match the paint if you go that route. It's sometimes a bit tough but I've seen it done. You wouldn't happen to know the name of the color would you? If you do they can maybe come up with the code and buy the color or mix it on their own. I say go to a reputable shop near you, see if they would be able to do that and give you an estimate. It shouldn't cost too much, depending on the color that is.

When my headlight cover broke off i re-attached it using JB weld then reinforced the mounting points with fibergass. Been holding up well so far.

Both my covers are hanging by a thread. The left cover I was able to epoxy the attachment points back on where they broke. The right cover the attachment flange was so eaten away there was nothing to glue it to. Currently it is being held on by transparent duct tape.

I've been thinking about making more attachment tabs with fiberglass as bzwigart did. I've also wondered about just using some galvanized strapping material such as is used to support hot water tanks.

I can't recall how much the covers were when Ray quoted them to me, but I think it was about $70. I have no idea what the cost would be to have a body shop paint them either. But compare to $200, a little glue, fiberglass, or even duct tape seems a good bargain.

I know the feeling of looking at a flapping headlight cover wondering if it is going to fly off or not. Hence the duct tape.

I thought about the cheap ebay headlight kit. They don't look great, but would be a little cheaper than replacing and painting two covers. I would have done it but my son had a fit. He doesn't like the looks of the ebay frog eyes and really likes the flip-ups. So for now I'm staying as is.

There are several kits out there, some of them use a fog light for the outside light which isn't DOT legal, like the C-West kit. RX-7 Store has a kit too for about 500 or so using halogens (you can upgrade it to HID but costs a couple or few hundred more obviously). It looks just the Evo-r kit but you have to do a slight modifcation to get it to fit right and looks a little bit of a pain to install. But it is a sleek kit, follows the stock line of the headlight covers and looks pretty nice when it's all in. Other than the ones on ebay that dhays is talking about that's about as cheap as conversion kits come, that I've seen at least. I don't know about all of them so there may be some cheaper ones out there. If you can rig them up somehow to still work and not flop around, I'd say go ahead and do it. As long as your happy with it and it works that's all that matters. No one will even be able to see the "modifications" to them if you have the plastic trim around the lights anyways.

since repairing with JB and fiberglass, the fastest I've been was 110 and it held secure. Reinforced the other side while I was at it, to prevent it from braking off as well.
