Head unit + factory bose system?

Hi Guys. I own a series 8 fd which is fitted with the factory bose sound system (has all the wierd crap in the boot). As I wanna use my ipod in the car and listen to radio channels other than jap frequencies, I'm planning on getting a nice apline head unit. Is there any difficulties with trying to install one? (because of the factory bose system). Or could any decent car audio workshop hook it up no probs? Thanks guys

shouldnt be a problem at all, a decent stereo shop could do it with ease, they just have to make sure that they attatch the remote wire that turns the factory Bose amps on, thats the only problem people run into, as its not in the adaptors that you buy, I know on S6 fds its a green wire, not sure about S8s shouldnt be hard to figure out though

I wouldn't think it would be a problem.
I have an alpine headunit which has the ipod cable running from the back of the unit to the glovebox. You just open the glovebox and plug the ipod in and you can do all your song searching right from the unit.

You'll need something like the Bose Schose adapter. Search "schose" and there will be some threads on it. I got mine from crutchfield but it doesn't seem to be on their site anymore.

youll only need that if you plan on using the low voltage RCAs if you run the factory high voltage outputs its not necessary

I actually don't think that's right...if you plan on using an aftermarket head unit with the bose speakers, you'll need the Scosche adapter. Most aftermarket head units have a different impedance level than what the Bose speakers are made for (4ohms vs. 2ohms or something like that).

Also you might need to get an antenna adapter.

I installed an aftermarket unit (first an Alpine -> stolen, now an Sony head unit w/Ipod input).

R-R-Rx7....yes it does, I have a 2000 series 8 and it has the bose system..
From what i've been reading there's all these hassles with the fact that each speaker has their own little amp..and any decent head unit will blow them out..
Thanks

its possible the bose system was added after the fact, unless your the original owner. which i doubt unless your from Jap.

i just looked through the diagram, and the amps are incorporated into the speakers themselves, so it looks like your going to have a hard time unless you change out your speakers as well

but ive been wrong quite abit lately

The high level (read: speaker level) outputs of any head unit can drive the Bose amps directly. This is fact, not conjecture.

sometimes resistors can be wired in with factory amps, or new wires could be run to the speakers from the head unit. Theres lots of different ways around factory BS

thats what i was thinking, the factory system IIRC uses high level outputs from the head unit, so I dont see how it would cause a problem. Like i said up higher Ive never had a problem with anything between my aftermarket headunit and my Bose system.

I just wired the head unit in as usual without an adapter and used the regular line outs that the head unit amplified already to the speakers and I just didnt wire the bose amps to turn on. Everything has been working great for a few months now.

The Touring model came with a BOSE surround sound system...In America, at least.

I used the Schose adapter like airborne mentioned when I installed my Kenwood.

I've got a 2000 type rs. It's definately not the stock system because it has the crazy wave tube stuff in the boot and it is bose. Unless some previous owner went to the huge effort of fitting the bose stuff, I'd say it was factory fitted. Anyway, who cares? lol.

The Bose tube in the back is from the factory.

Any audio shop will be able to set you up.

This should really be in the audio forum...because there's a sticky there regarding the Schose adapter and probably has all kinds of good antenna stuff.
