HAving tons of trouble with shifter bushing

Well I've gotten a shifter bushing(the small one that fits around the bottom ball of the shifter) from two different mazda dealers and neither fits. Both are two small.
Tried forcing one on, to where it splits in two. That doesn't work.

I'm sure my shifter is OEM because I just replaced it with another OEM one.

Try heating it up with a heat gun but be careful not to melt it. Its a tight fit.

Nope it is WAYYYYY too small. Not simply a tight fit. To make it fit it had to have a crack in it and it streached a centimeter.

It's the wrong bushing i'm sure. I don't know how to get the right one though

888-533-3400 is his number - he works in parts at Malloy Mazda, he'll get you the right part at a fair price.

I have replaced them without any problems. Are you sure the shifter is OEM FD and that the part is FD?

Actually I think I figured it out.

I double checked the bushing again and it fits down in the control rod end.
Which emans the bottom ball at the shifter is too big. Which means the shifter is wrong for the transmission/bushing.

Well what happened was my mechanic mentiond something was chewed up on the shifter and he didn't think jsut that part could be replaced. I thought he must of ment the metal ball-like parts of it. I found out today that it was the other plastic bushing that is like a slot which was worn out.
I decided to look into the '93 years shifter assembly thinking maybe I had a cusp car or something. Turns out the two years shifters are different. That's what got me to double check and see how well the bushing itself fits into that notch on the control rod end, and it turns out it fits fine.
Well he had gone ahead and replaced the whole shifter and all. It seems to me he got a '93 year shifter.

So.. yeah. I'm going to get my 94 shifter back and replace the other bushing. That should do it.
