having problems with my buddy's 3rd gen, need some help

ok here we go

my friend have a 93 rx7 manual and when he brought the car it had a blown engine. so he got a Jspec engine with engine harness and ecu so we swaped it but it doesnt want to run. first thing i did was to put the jspec ecu on the car, thinking that all the sensors are different. well it did some help but no success. so ketp searching around and found that i put the crank angle sensors the wrong way, so i fix it and it started but the rear rotor keep flooding. so we thought have to be injectors, so we put the old injectors of the old engine plus we decided to do the simplification mod and the block off plates thinking maibe they will help but no still not running good so before i left i check the timing on the motor because we notice that backfires back to the intake and i checked and it was 50 degree off!!! . i dont know whats cousing this. im still learning about 3rd gens and seem they are a pain in the ash to work on and were having a hard time to get it running. so please help me here and my friend. im ready to give up on it

I'm confused when you say "backfires back to the intake"? What do you mean by that?

Also, if you simplified, it takes more effort to use stock ecu (not sure about so called JDM ecu's though).

My suggestion, get someone with PFC to check if all the sensors are working correctly. Also, double check all your lines.. especially MAP, TPS, Crank Angle..

The timing on the rotary is set with the two crank sensors. That's the only thing telling the ECU orientation of the engine. If you're 50deg off (and I'm not sure how you measured that) then I'm guessing the sensors are off 50deg. But even if you swapped the two positions, it wouldn't give you 50deg. Maybe 10 or 15.

Another idea, do you have the leading and trailing plugs mixed up? Hook up the trailing coils to the leading and that's what giving you the backfire?

I'd again check all your sensors.

Well we used a timing gun and kept turning the car over. Before had the crank angle sensors backwards and well...it was just POURING smoke out of the intake. So we changed them around and actually got it to fire but RARELY and never without flooding the rear rotor.

The trailing and leading plugs are right and all coils are hooked to plugs right. We even though it could be a huge vacuum leak which is why did the simplifacation. We also changed back to USDM injectors and rails and the coils because they ran the old motor that was blown so why wouldn't they work on this one?

we used a timing gun with a dial on it. and i move the dial until i saw the mark and it was at 50 degree until i saw the mark. im like clueless of why is like this. because isnt the computer control the timing? theres no CAS or distributor to adjust it. i didnt mix the plugs, i done them for years now, very rarelly do that and trust me i make sure i didnt. i dont know im out of ideas thats why i need some help

try swapping the two timing sensors with the ones off the blown motor.

the two right behind the front main pulley.
