Handbrake light on at WOT?

guys,

ive searched, but can only find threads related to handbrake light being on all the time...my problem only happens when i go full throttle. I definately notice it in first and second, but not sure about 3rd or fourth yet... It just comes on when i accelerate hard, and goes again when i come off it.

weird eh? brakes are unaffected, brake fluid level is good....new pads rear, plenty of meat on the fronts.

There are steps in the manual for adjusting the handbrake. Try that first.

add some brake fluid bringing it to max, mine did it too after i did my clutch and bled the line a few times (just a LITTLE bit missing made it happen!)

The handbrake light coming on could just be from the sheer force of acceleration which lifts your handbrake slightly enough to turn the light on. I'm with Mahjik... tighten/adjust the handbrake first.

No, check the brake fluid level first. If the fluid is low it sloshes into the back of the reservoir at high acceleration and makes the light turn on. If the fluid is full then look into the handbrake adjustment.

The "brake" light is the idiot light for the low brake fluid as well as the hand brake.
Therefore, the advice by DamonB is spot on, as usual.

He said the brake fluid level was OK...

The fluid doesn't have to be low at all for this problem to occur. The first time it happened to me years ago I swore it was not because the fluid was too low because the reservoir was very full. I was wrong. Topping it up fixed it...

The warning for the brake fluid level is ultra conservative. Just like the coolant level buzzer: only a few cups low and it wants you to know about it!

Ah, I stand corrected. Good point Damon... Yes, please check fluid first then adjustment.

Come to think of it, I've experienced this also. The E-brake light used to come on during heavy acceleration, and it hasn't done it since I topped off my brake fluid.

I have seen several that were related to the E-brake adjustment. If the fluid is low, then that makes sense. But, if it's not low, it will be in the adjustment.

Happened to me and the brake fluid was the issue, added some and it went away.

DamonB is right.
