A HA! I knew my car was slow! downpipe/turbo question.

Hey Guys,

I just got my boost gauge installed because I knew I was not as fast as I should be. My boost pattern 7.5-6-7.5.

Both of my turbos spin easily by hand and all of my hoses are ok. I used to think that my secondary turbo solenoid was bad (by the way the car pulls) but now after seeing the boost pattern I'm not sure anymore. I thought I should be seeing a boost pattern as so: 10-crap-crap, and if was my primary solenoid then I would not boost at all right? Hence the secondary works after the primary (condition A has to be met in order for condition B to happen).

Since my boost pattern is symetrical but greatly hindered, this bring me to the conclusion that my precat is clogged. I mean my car has 106k miles on it, so it's very likely that it is clogged. What is your opinion? Solenoids? downpipe? any other culprit that I haven't thought of? I wanted to know what you guys thought before I started taking stuff apart. Thanks

PS- I know I need a downpipe anyway but I didn't want to start adding more variables to the equation. If you know what I mean

I think everyone will agree, if you haven't replaced your precat with a DP, do that first. I can almost guarantee you that your low boost problems will disappear. Get a DP and have fun

cool. I will do that this week. Thanks DarkKnight
& nocab72.

Any suggestions on which manufacturer of downpipes I should go with? Or are they all pretty much the same across the board?

They're all pretty much the same, just don't get cheap... Get something stainless steel and maybe coated too. It does sound like your cats are probably clogged, your turbos think they're boosting properly otherwise your secondary wouldn't even kick in. Somethings blocking the flow though.

I got the M2 SS. Love it (if you can love a DP).
