Ground Wire?

I want to get a set of Hyper Ground System and and Hyper Voltage System for my car. I read on Import Tuner in the power pages before that it gain like 15 horse power. Have anyone here try it? Does it really work? It look kool but is the Hyper Ground System worth $115 and Hyper Voltage System worth $188?

well the ground system you can probably pick up somewhere else for cheap...i know my friend got a ground system for like $20 from some guy that was making them...they're actual a cheap item because all it is is wiring...so i would recommend just calling around like auto stores and seeing if they have some for cheap prices

not worth it imho. that is the common trick of getting a car that is not running correctly due to a grounding issue and installing a set of ground wires to fix a "prob" and callling it an upgrade when it is more like a repair. they look nice and all but some nice gague wire and a few connectors and you should be able to do it yourself for way less.

If you search the forum, there are many threads about making your own grounding wires.

Will you get an extra 15HP? Doubtful unless you have bad grounds it's not going to give you much extra. You might experience a steadier idle and a little smoother acceleration with the extra grounds but that would be about it. It's still a good thing to do, IMO, whether or not you make your own or buy a kit.

I agree, you will not gain much in the way of HP .

Those import tuner power pages are so unreliable and the numbers are, most of the time, untrue.
15hp - no, 1 to 5hp maybe. go on ebay and get yourself a set for about $30 shipped.

agreed, but before you decide on these youshoudl check your ground wires now to see if they need replacing. Mine are all rusted/not connected/ or ripped which would make logical sense to get the kit. I just got one of eBay for $22 shipped. 5 bucks for 8 wires and the brackets and that and 18 for shipping. But thats how eBay works and sure as hell beats $80+ for brand names at the local auto stores. They even got some Mazdaspeed ones on eBay is ya wanna pay the extra 15 bucks for the logo.

The genuine HKS Circle Earth kit comes with a mount, I'm not sure where it mounts on the FD, I saw it once but can't remember -- on a FC its by the fusebox.

Cant you order one of those and drill your own holes or something, looks like an over-priced piece of junk with a fancy sticker. Oh well, I do have to get around to making one, one day, my grounds are done for.

Go to a local stereo store and buy amp wires. I got them for $2.50 each with a terminal already on one end. I think they were 6- or 8- gauge, like 1/4" thick copper. The 1/4" holes fit the M8 grounding screws just fine. Buy terminals for the other end. Install, cut to lenght, crimp. Use sandpaper and a degreaser and make sure you clean all connections real good, and that's it.

I will tell you once: there is no horsepower gain, and no difference between the expensive kit and the home depot / stereo cable version. Electrical copper is electrical copper. If you notice an improvment in power, it's just regaining what was lost before.

The big circle thing is supposed to be mounted on the negative battery terminal. This is how the HKS Earth Grounding System works. The negative battery terminal is supposed to be a main ground on most cars, but then again this is an FD, which makes almost everything different.

Ok guys,

I'm a little confused on grounding. I'm having an issue with hit the brakes at nite and the headlights dim. It sounds like a grounding problem right? Well I figured that I could do a direct negative battery to body ground to get the basic ground to the frame and when I did and started the car, I heard a quick pop and no power to the car. So I disconnected the ground I did, put an auxillary battery charger to the battery and the car started right up.

I still have the issue with the ground, but I thought what I did wouldn't cause a failure of the electrical system in the car. What went wrong and anyone point me in the direction on where my ground short might be?

Icemark, you out there???

make your own....
will cost you like 15 bucks
goto your favorite auto place
Purchase 10 connectors for the size gauge wire you want (make sure a 10mm bolt fits it)
Then goto a stereo shop and get some power cable. Say 6-8 feet

Then log onto rx7club.com and find the diagram of the grounding kit I think damian made
Then cut cables to length slam connectors onto each end bolt up into car...and....PRESTO!!!
you just saved alot of money

Money which you should now use and go buy something that will actually make your car go faster

You don't save a lot of money when you factor in your time. Travel to stereo shop and autoparts store, plus finding parking and checking out. So two hours to buy everything, get home and assemble everything.. so say your time is worth $25/hr thats $50 already. Plus $15 in materialsl, and oops! you need more bolts, a trip to the hardware store.. thats another 30 minutes.

So you save what.. $20.. not exactly a lot of money.

That's really fuzzy math. It took me 15 minutes to buy it (stopped at the store on my way to Target), 3 extra minutes per connection to cut to length and crimp. Materials were actually less than $15, more like $10. I feel I saved $100.

Just think how much time you spend on this forum and tell me if that's smart economics.

If you're feeling attacked because you bought the expensive 'kit', don't. But I feel quite satisfied with my cheap solution, and I'm glad I found that alternative to the expensive stuff.

B is the screws to the block underneath the ignition coils. You have to remove the UIM/TB/elbow assembly and then the ignition coil tray.

A requires you to remove nothing. It's a bolt in the wheelwell right in the open.

There is actually one more ground way down at the base of the engine on the driver side. I only found it because I have a complete engine out of the car. I did this mod with the ebay circle earth, ditched the circle and just did what damian did. I did actually feel a noticable difference. It basically made the throttle a little more responsive/touchy.

Thanks dgeesman, you're always helpful. I think that when you were talking about "A" you were talking about the ,"Battery Ground & Engine Block Ground A" Instead of, "Engine Block Ground A". I think Ground A is on the jumper hook thingy so that shouldn't be too hard to get too once i remove the UIM/TB/ and the Elbow.

I hope this gets rid of my stumbling problem

Yeah, the engine side is that hook for pulling the engine. I attached mine there too, but remember it was really cramped to do it. Any similar bolt on the engine housing should do.
