Question Greddy Profec-B Troubleshooting

Setup: External Wastegate, Single Turbo, pressure sourced near compressor (turbo)

Problem: Profec-B causing overboosting when powered off (e.g. its still restricting pressure going to WG).

As I understood things, the Profec-B should behave as if it was bypassed (boost controlled only by wastegate), when the power is off. But it appears that it will only behave this way when the controller box is unplugged, hitting the power button does not do the trick.

Have any of you experimented with the way the Profec-B behaves when connected to a air-compressor? With an air compressor and the profec-b powered off (but connected / plugged into the actuator box) I can hear the actuators working when applied as little as a few lbs. of pressure. But when I disconnect the connector between the control box and the actuator box I can apply even 10 lbs of pressure (or more) with out ever hearing the actuators....

Just wondering if this is normal behavior of the Profec-B (or is mine busted)?

Thanks

Do you have the manual? I have one from Greddy and would upload it but it's on my other laptop. I wish I could see your vacuume line routing in person. One very important thing is to make sure you have the compressor outlet tapped and that line routed to the side of the wastegate. The top of the wastegate gets the pressure source from the solenoid itself. The solenoid and the controller box should be getting intake manifold vacuume. If you need a picture drawn let me know and I'll show you some Microsoft paint skills...

I've been using this as a guide: http://www.fd3s.net/profec_install.html

Thanks mono4lamar!

I totally missed that about the (OUT) line running to the top of the WG. I had the Profec-B between the pressure source and the *side* of the wastegate, and the top port on the WG was just open to atmosphere.

Here is how I will re-configure it:

- a line from Compressor to the side of the WG
- a line from the (OUT) port on the actuator to the top of the WG
- a line from the UIM to the (IN) port on the actuator
- a line from the UIM to the Profec-B electronic box inside the car

Hopefully that will sort me out, I'll let you know! BTW, my pressure source was from the compressor.

Your revised listed order is just how I said so you should be fine if you do it like that. This will solve your problem buddy

if you had the boost controller in-line with the side port of the wastegate, you would have had to set up the boost controller for an internal wastegate configuration.

Worked like a charm! Thanks for that, I thought by boost controller was broken!
