They did, the robber(s) disabled/removed the tapes.

Yeah.. I'd be looking damn close to home if I were them. That and/or reviewing tapes from the recent past. People who go to this length will typically spend a while surveilling their target before they move...

I posted this over on the FD forum I'm a member of here in the UK. Hopefully they will keep their eyes out in case the thieves try to sell what they stole to the UK/European market..

Its a shame that there are so many dishonest people in this world. It doesn't surprise me however. Several other shops and businesses in the vicinity have been broken into over the last year or so. Security cameras can only do so much. Often the resolution isn't high enough or they don't get a good shot of the suspects face unless they stare right at the camera. My guess is that it was someone who was at the shop several times before. Possibly a customer or a disgruntled ex-employee. I know there was a dyno day/tuning session the day before/of the robbery. It doesn't seem too far fetched to me that someone might have had a good look around while they were waiting to dyno, saw what was there, and then decided to come back later and take the items. Its sad because we may often think of ourselves as a tight community, and then something like this happens. Reminds me of an incident with KDR years ago when a dishonest customer used stolen credit cards to build up his car. Seemed like a nice guy when I met him. Another shop owner I know was so tired of breakins that he got a pitbull guard dog. Different type of thing, but same idea. I hope the ones that lost their possessions get reimbursed by insurance.

Yeah cameras can only do soo much, especially for the price MOST shops are willing to pay.

My job has about 11 cameras total totalling to about $23,000 IIRC (im not sure if the labor was included but i overheard 23k for the security system) and the ******* monitor is garbage. Playback is horrible, its at a low FPM so you cant see anything when playing back. On the cameras for the parking lot, its black and white and it cant zoom in for license plates. All you can see is the whole lot and you need someone who knows about cars to point out exactly what car pulls in and out etc.

My opinion is that if someone wants to steal, it will happen. Just like people who steal cars. If they want it, they'll get it. You can only protect it by so much. Unless you are guarding it, standing right next to it 24/7.

With a big shop like gotham, im not surprised it got robbed, most shops do. Im surprised at how much they stole though (dollar amount wise) because that person(s) have some big ***** because if it was an inside job, you just kicked, spit and gave the finger to the owner(s) of that shop.

And THAT is a big shame.
