Got into an accident - need advice
So I got into an accident yesterday afternoon. I was driving on a street when an SUV in front of me decided to stop, of course I stopped also and wondered why would someone stop in the middle of the street. After a few seconds the SUV put its reverse lights on and proceeded to reverse. I immediately pressed on my horn but apparently the driver did not hear this and the SUV hit the front of my car. By the time the driver noticed that she hit my car it was too late and we exchanged information. The driver explained that she reversed in order to give the car ahead of her space to parallel park and she did not see my car. The worse damage was caused by the tow hook that dug into the bumper and rebar. The SUV's spare tire also managed to dent my hood and misalign it. I have an appointment with the insurance adjuster next Tuesday and I was wondering what damage has my car suffered? Below are pictures of the damage.

thats sucks man, but its really not that bad. got around and get a bunch of quotes. they usually say get 3, but i would get more and then pick out the highest 3 and they will give a a check for the average price. and then you can take it to one of the cheaper places and pocket the rest of the money.
as for th bumper it could be welded back together, which would be a lot cheaper, but if you get them to say you need a new bumper the bumper is like $6** something from the dealership. so you can probably get some extra cash out of this.

99spec all the way. if you can get them to shell out for the rebar (perhaps you should get under there and crunch a spot (that you would end up cutting away for the 99spec lights anyways) and then you just pocketed a little bit more cash.
Hood can be fixed. But you could also argue with the adjuster about the properties of aluminum and metal fatigue and get them to shell out for a new Mazda hood and painting. Then get a vented CF hood.
you'll come out 300+ ahead and have 99spec front bumper and lights and a new hood.
Also, DO NOT let them replace just one of your turn signals. the difference in age will make them not match. it is their responsibility to make the car as it was. which means the signals need to match (whether they look newer doesn't matter)
Try to get a check once you negotiate the final replacement costs. Be sure to get quotes from Ray Crowe at List pricing and then what his price to you would be. insurance will want to negotiate that too. THen go to the shop of your choice and get quotes for painting the bumper and OEM hood (even if you just plan on buying a CF hood, just keep pretending that you are not going to) and DO NOT BUDGE on that quote. dont forget installation labor too. Then once you have that totalled up, get a check from the insurance company and be done with them.
You may want to make sure that you have EVERY damaged part accounted for.

Where does it say that?
People and their driving skills, or lack there of, scare the **** out of me. Anytime you move your vehicle in any direction, you should ALWAYS be looking where you are going. Not just putting your big pos suv in reverse and backing up to where ever the hell you please.
Atleast it's just minor cosmetic damage bro. I'd check EVERYTHING though up front just to be sure, rad, IC, etc.

I had the same thing happen to me a month ago. A GMC Denali backed up on top of my FD. $3K in damage. I couldn't find a 99 bumper fast enough, so I had to go with stock.
And by the way, for you Monday morning quarterbacks. Good luck trying to get your car in reverse and out of the way of an SUV auto in reverse.

I recently had a problem coming over a hill on a back road and finding an f250 in the left lane and a cavalier in my lane...doing like 100... I ended up sliding off the road and into a tree to avoid a head on collision... Was like 8500 in damage, but luckily no frame damage, just a bent wheel and new door. Been waiting to get it back for 37 days now . Things could always be worse; you could get a used stock bumper for like 100-150 here. Sorry to see another fd in trouble

At stop lights and whatnot, I leave enough room between me and who's in front of me that a small car could fit inbetween us.
In some places, if you get rear ended and end up getting pushed into the rig infront of you, it's your fault because you parked to close to them.

Yeah, I would like you go out and try to weld the stock bumper cover back together....
Sorry for your incident....although I have been in the same situation and simply reversed while honking. It is not a big deal dealing with insurance if you find a good body shop....a good shop will both do good work and be good at negotiating what needs to be replaced with the insurance company.

Well I drove the car today, first time since the accident. I was on the expressway got near to WOT but not quite when I started to see smoke in the cabin of the vehicle (passenger side foot well). I immediately stopped and got the fire extinguisher from the trunk and popped the hood. To my amazement and relief there was no fire in the engine bay. I double checked the temp gauge and it was not over heating. I decided to drive the car home as soon as possible, but while on the way home the smell of the burning kept coming on and off. This occurred every 5 or so minutes. Once I got home I threw the car on jack stands and saw nothing leaking near the downpipes or near the turbos (or any charring in the vicinity). Could this have been caused by the accident?

sucks about the car, but if you're gonna upgrade the damaged parts, you'd have to pay out of your own pocket. or get estimates showing upgraded parts are cheaper than repairing & painting your current damaged units. her insurance should/will cover repairs, idk about upgrades

Possible, esp. if you have a dual oil-coolers.
Make sure you get all estimates in writing, and like someone said, take it to a shop you trust and who does good work. Make sure the shop is YOUR advocate.
You're the victim, you get to choose who does the work on YOUR car, and what parts are used (including paint). I would choose ONLY a high-quality urethane-based paint with at minimum 3-coats of clear.
IMHO, any haggling by her insurance company, should end with the phrase: "if we can't work this out together, then you can work it out with my attorney."
Good luck,
:-) neil

So here is an update....
I got 3 estimates from different local body shops, all the body shops gave me quotes using new parts (bumper skin, rebar, turn signals, and support). However, statefarm made their quote using recycled parts, which I am very disappointed about! Is there any possible way to make statefarm pay for new parts?

Just FYI, www.RX7.com typically stocks all the 99 spec parts.

Worst comes to worse tell them your totalling it and buying it back for a 1/5 of the price

Sorry to hear about the accident though, I'm going Spirit R look so if you'd like, you can have my stock VR bumper, just pay for shipping. The good part is that your car is not that bad and you're okay.
