Is this a good thing to shoot flames???

goodfellaFD3s has a post about finally shooting flames out of the exhaust.........now it certainly sounds cool and it's got to be impressive as you blow past someone but......is this a good thing...Does this cause any harm to your system..........i understand it's from running rich at deceleration, right?..... how about the plastic rear bumper...........does it get torched???? I'm about to get my apexi in the mail anyday (right Jason???) Should i try this too???

comments please...........

More of a fun thing vs a necessary thing. Looks cool as crap at night...I just started shooting when I got the mp on.

It can toast the bumper on highly-tuned rotaries running large ports and large turbos. These motors will have more overlap, more extra fuel, which will produce larger and longer-lasting flames. There are metal plates you can buy or make to "protect" your bumper.

The only really "negative" thing about it is that it's a clear sign to cops that you don't have a cat.

You need an open exhaust: dp, mp, catback. Then it's a function of how rich you're running. I used my Power FC to begin the flamage

No, it just burns the cat or doesn't ignite at all. It happens much more often than you'd think as it's pretty much a property that comes with the design of the rotary.

Like GoodfellaFD3S said, you will need an open exhaust to shoot flames. If you put a cat in place, it is restricting the flow and you will not be shooting flames

Well I just picked up my car today from getting the Pettit DP put on and I already have a Pettit CB and I had a friend follow me on the way home, at night. He said when it backfired a tiny burst of flamage came out so I know I am on the right track, all I need now is an ECU and MP, damn I cant wait to shoot huge flames, lol, later guys! Oh and the DP made a world of difference, I couldnt believe the responsiveness once the clutch went out in 2nd, picked right up at full boost, real nice!!

There aren't from my R1, they're from Ryan Schlagheck's old FD. I'm working on getting pics, but I've been working 18 hr days lately b/c of what happened at the WTC (I'm working now...came in at 1am) and don't have much time...

Under the section w/rev limiter and idle, change the "(decel) fuel cut" to 8k. There are three categories, one w/no electrical load, w/elec load, and w/AC on. I don't have the commander in front of me, so I'm going off memory here .

I only set mine to 8k w/elec load. I'm still experimenting, but I should be able to blow flames with the parking lights on and turn them off to go into "stealth mode."

Btw, nice avatar. Did you pin the speedo like that? I backed off at 170 b/c of traffic . I know there's a pic of Steve Kan's car on the dyno w/the speedo pinned.

just another question from my previous....Do i have to do mp with the Dp and catback to shoot flames out. or is it possible to do it with a high-flow cat like the N-tech.

I've been told that it has to be a MP to shoot flames.
