Good FD Experiences!
So the point of this thread will *hopefully* be to share some actually good stories with your FDs. Reason being, every time I get onto the boards and check the 3rd gen. section, it's nothing but "oh this broke" or "how do I fix this". Nothing is ever about enjoying your cars! Mine's been down and out for 2 years now, and I'm finally starting to run low on motivation to keep the car, despite being so close to a fix! Checking the boards to see horror stories on a daily basis isn't helping either.
Anybody actually have something good to say about their cars?
I guess I'll try to start. Even though it's broken, she sure is pretty!

Well that what the tech section is about right? Usually problems. Whenever I want to feel good about my car I checkout the interior exterior section and *used (sucks now)* to visit the kills section.
Here's mine. After 11 years of ownership I still love how the car looks and drives, nevermind hearing my single the turbo spool, now that pre bliss.

*I actually got an award recently at a local benefit car show.
*It makes me a better driver at work.
*Owning and driving my car has allowed me to meet and interact with young(er) guys when off-duty. That's good for both of us.
*Owned and maintained my car for nearly 7 years. It's always started and never left me stranded.
*Many have a "I come from a poor family" story...including me. This really is a dream car, since it's a nicer car than I EVER dreamed of owning when I was a kid.
*I feel 30 pounds lighter and 30 years younger everytime I drive it.

I bought my FD with no motor or tranny in it, had the work done for rebuilding the motor to stock specs, repair the 5th gear, throw in some BNR's and I've been having fun almost every weendend (aside from 3 months living out of state due to work) crusin around taking friends for rides and turning heads... definitely has gotten me laid more in the last year than not!!
I STILL have yet to do any serious track events, hopefully this summer. STILL need to get a PFC and a solid boost controller, so up to this point, I haven't been driving like a bat outta hell... though i have picked up a speeding ticket, luckily was marked down at 80, even though I was well over 100... thanks to a pretty brunette officer in King City who I actually got her number!
Need to do my 1 year coolant change, oil too ... then polish and wax before crusin by the IMAX theatre for teenie boppers this weekend! LOL

I love the way the car looks. I still think its the best looking car I've ever seen and like Blue, its the best car I could ever imagine owning.
The thing I like most about the car is when Im inside. The car just feels like a well tailored suit when you sit in it. It just wraps around you and communicates with you better. All the other cars I've driven just feel so numb and slow compared to the 7. Even driving slow in a 7 feels fast. Everything from the sound to the way my stomach clenches a little when I go WOT makes me love the 7 even more. I was going to say my only complaint about the car is the money Im dumping into it but the car just seems more valuable to me now that I invested so much.

I went to a local performance shop for their BBQ (subies, Evos, Nissans, etc.). I showed up and had 3 people yell Sweet car as I pulled in and had so much attention on the FD. Better yet, everyone was in line for food when I had to leave, and the whole crowd gathering was on the exit road. To see the sea of people part and have everyone stop and look was an ego boost to say the least. I even had a guy run in front of my car to grab a quick picture as I idles out of the lot. The FD gets respect and attention from those who are real car fans. Even the v8 guys are blown away at how tiny and complex the car is. I for one LOVE IT.

I've had mine since last august, been working on it ever since I got it, but the few times i've been able to just take it out for a drive and not be testing anything have been great. I've never even been past half throttle or 8lbs of boost and I still love it.
The only thing I don't like is that the interior is a mess, it looks ok still but everything rattles. But thats next winter's project. The tune comes next week and I cannot wait to feel what WOT feels like in third with 500whp (cross your fingers for me please)

lol....most of the posts ARE related to problems or questions about repairs but the fact is, the FD is one of THE best cars ever, even with all the known issues....issues that for the most part have been addressed over the years by identification of what was not optimal in Mazda's original product, things like the pre-cat nuclear furnace that causes so many underhood heat issues, the stock cooling system issues, and the detonation issues that are the cause of side and apex seal failure. Most of the cars on the road today are far more reliable than the stock cars sold from showrooms.
The styling is timeless and has put the car in the company of other timeless, beautiful designs like the Jaguar E-Type, the Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari 250 GTO, Aston Martin DB4, etc.
It was just the complete deal in '93, a car that shocked the automotive world with its performance and beauty.

In response to SuperNaut reply above.
This is exactly how I feel about my RX-7s. Even when you drive em slow they feel fast.
Heck, if you just look at an RX-7 they even look fast.
Even when they are dirty they look good.
Even when you see one that is totalled, rusted, beat up. You still say wow, an RX-7.
I've been stopped by cops and even they've wanted me to pop the hood so they can see the engine. Believe it or not. I've never had a speeding ticket in my FDs. A few warnings but never a ticket.

LOL,
I fired mine up last weekend and stopped by the gas station and the car wouldn't restart. Called a friend with a bump box (wasn't the problem), and we're both standing looking in the engine bay puzzled, and some guy still rolled up and said "wow, what is THAT, is it NEW?"

today is last day for a Java programming class at work ... the instructor is having us go through an example of setting up a java bean using a car as an object... the car has an engine, tires, doors, etc... you get the point.
Instructor: "(to the class) What specifications should we give our engine?"
Me: "1.3 Liter"
Instructor (and class): "What is that? My lawnmower has more than that!"
Me: "A twin turbo rotary!"
Instructor: "No, I think we want a V8, not sure what a ... rotor.. is? (strange look on instructors face)"
Me: (recals Instructor mentioned he is from Denver). "Will your lawnmower go 0-60 in less than 5 seconds?"
Instructor: "Oh yah! And my buddy's Mustang is even faster!".
Me: turns my laptop around to show my red FD on the desktop...
Class: "hey, what car is that?"
Me: "The 1.3L rotary" ... then opens folder with many photos of FD's and diagrams of the rotory engine.
Java class detours to 1 hour discussion on FD's vs V8's... LOL .. I hope I pass the class and get my Certificate.
