glovebox?

do your gloveboxes have a pretty big gap between the glovebox and the dash? i just fixed my glovebox latch yesterday because it wouldn't open or close properly ever since i had the car. i always thought the large gap was due the latch being broken, but now that it's fixed and closes perfectly, the gap is still there. is this normal?

Mine has a fairly substantial gap also _ I have adjusted the latch and repaired the hinges but it is still fairly wide. I also added a plastic button headed thingy (sold under the HELP brand as a TRIM RETAINER) to turn the light off, my Light switch plunger had pushed deep enough into the soft plastic of the door to cause it to not turn off the light..

Mine ('93) has a pretty big gap that causes the glovebox light to stay on. Isn't there a TSB related to this?

Yes there is, but the TSB basically says Adjust the latch &/or replace the whole Glove Box - I will take some pic's of my fix and post them up soon.

Same here. And what the hell was up with them putting the plastic doohickey over the mounting screws? Jeez, that was a hard box to get ahold of.

Ahem.

Ya, my light is always on, too. I'm gonna take some time to rig up something cheap and ghetto to keep it off.

Its a simple fix - Go to your local Auto Parts store - get a package of HELP brand "Interior Trim Fasteners" ( the flat oval head plastic push in kind w/ the barbed shaft) select a BLACK one w/ a head about 3/8" dia, Look at the GB door there will be a small dimple where the pin of the light switch hits - drill an appropriately sized (for the fastener selected) hole at that spot, Press in the fastner (you may have to trim the shaft if it penetrates too deep, measure w/ the drill bit first) and voila' the problem is solved!

I will be taking photos soon and doing a write up on this FIX.

i dont have pics, nor a camera but i came up with a simple fix that didnt cost me any money.... i took a small screw, about 3/4 inch in length and screwed it into the glovebox right where the small pushrod thing that activates the light makes contact with the glovebox itself... adjusted how much i screwed in the screw to make it shut off jsut right without forcing the box to stay open any further than it already does

Mine does the same thing too. I just took out the light bulb, the damn thing was distracting when driving at night. Plus I never have anything in the glove box anyways.
