Red face Glove box broken.....where?

Recently my glove box broke but i cant seem to figure out how or where. its at the back but i dont see any broken pieces etc. The front latch is fine and stays closed but the back falls down.

I see two cylinder pieces with teeth around them, one on each back corner, do they have to do with holding it in place? Is it broken or did it just unclip itself somehow?

Was just looking to see if anyone had the same prob and might have an idea of what to look at.

Just one side broke on my last FD, the drivers back corner. So I hooked it as best as I could, and drilled a hole all the way through and used a strong zip-tie to act as a hinge. It worked...

I've just fixed my glove box last week. The latch came loose inside the glove box, I had to rip the cover off (it's glued on) to get inside it. Reattached the latch and glued it all back together, it's good as new now.

Now - the light USED to come on all the time, but since I fixed the latch, it doesn't. I guess the loose latch caused it to hang a little lower then normal, hence the light was coming on.

And if your glovebox is hanging loose at the back, check where the two screws hold the box onto it's hinges. Fairly easy to see if you stick your head under the glovebox. One or both could be broken/loose.

Mine does the same thing... Haven't yet tried to fix it. More focused on getting the car on the road than worrying about a light I can hardly see. But if there is an easy fix, I'll go ahead and take care of it.

Mazdabation, first make sure all the screws are there and tight. I had that prob where the screws got loose, so the glove box would close and hold closed, but when you tried to open it, the back would plop down. Screws, washer, screwdriver, a bad backache (from the aerobatic gymnastics style contortion you gotta get yourself in to see those screws), and 5 min later, I was good to go

Mine broke a few weeks back and I had to be a contortionist to fix it..

This is on a 98 model with an almost perfect interior..

Mine didnt break on the hinges, nor on the latch..it was underneath at the back on one side..a cross bar at the back (To which the hinges bolt) screws onto some plastic..the plastic piece broke about 1 inch from the damn screw! I used a lot of epoxy resin glue to fix it..

Basically the pic below might help you understand what I wrote above.

|=*------*=|

where
| is the side of the glove box cavity
= on either end is plastic fixed into the dash structure
* is the hinge where the glove box attaches
---- is the cross brace the hinges are a part of (Made of steel...that bolts to plastic! Idiotic design!!)

the = is the part that broke!!

Easiest way to learn mate is by doing. Just pull out the glovebox (it's easy to remove) and remove the two screws inside it which hold on the outer handle. You'll see how the latch operates, and then realise you can't get into the latch without pulling the bastard apart.

I used super glue to put it back together, worked a treat.
