Gas Leak..... Help

Okay this is starting to **** me off... I took my car to one of my friends shop.. got the damn injector seals replaced.. 2 bottom injectors had both of the seals replaced and it wasn't make any more noise like it was before which was leaking .. now its making the same noise.. and i don't think its coming from the same place or not... how can i trouble shoot this problem??? and its not leaking from the FPD whatever you guys call it.. cuz it was replaced a while back.. so i can't really think of any other place other than the injector... NOW could it Be the INJECTOR it self.. i mean leaking from the INJECTOR instead of the seals.?? is that possible???

ohh and i thought the leak was just something small when I got the upper part of the manifold off.. hella gas on the bottom... it kept building up... anyways
injector seals are new. replaced it yesterday.. at 3pm.. now i still hear the damn noise like water boiling kind noise.. but under the manifold.. and i know its not water.. its gas....

Get a flashlight of maybe a lighter and stick it under the UIM and maybe you can see where its coming from.

Just kidding, about the lighter.

Have you checked the hoses for any cracks? And are you sure the PD is good? But one thing is sure, DONT DRIVE THE CAR. Hope you find the problem.

Injectors can leak straight out of the top or bottom when they go bad. They can also leak between the plastic body of the injector and the metal fuel rail when an o-ring is leaking.

Did you pressurize the fuel rail to observe the leaking in action? When you replaced the injector 'seals', are you talking about the o-rings between the injectors and the fuel rail, or the soft rubber ones that sit in the injector bores on the block? (the ones in the block don't cause/fix fuel leaks - only the o-rings do that).

It could be the fuel pulsation dampener. They are prone to leaking. I had a fuel leak from there on my car.

You need to pressurize your fuel system with the engine not running to track down the source of your leak. To do so, go to the diagnosis box at the driver's side fender wall and jumper the fuel pump to ground with a paper clip. There is a diagram on the inside of the diagnosis box cover to tell you the ones to jumper. Then turn the ignition switch to the "on" position (do not start the engine). You should then hear a hum from the rear of the car which is your fuel pump running. You can then search under the hood until you locate the leak. You can even pull off the UIM and still have a pressurized system.

By the way, Dave is right that the injectors can leak from the injector body, from under the plastic cover and through the prongs for the electrical connector (i.e., not just the o-ring seals) when they have gone bad.

Exactly - I even unbolted the fuel rails from the block so I could lift it clear and look for leaks on all sides of the injectors. You need to have the UIM, ignition coils, and rats nest removed.

Unfortunately this test did not find the leaking primary that caused me trouble - however WitchHunter did find the leakage (after I had switched to a better/cleaner set).

Okay just got my car back from Ricks rotary in Hayward. and they said it could be 2 things. either a cracked injector. (which is old and falling appart) or the FPD. and to change the injectors they want $1,900 parts and labor. and for the FPD $1800. you got to be kidding me... i just had my seals replaced by a mechanic that i trust and does good work.. he charged me $80. lol and he's going to charge me another $80 to replace either 1 of them.... which i think its DIRT cheap... i dunno know any mechanic that do that.. or can do that.. most of them charge 90 bucks an HOUR. so if any 1 is from the area. let me know.. lol could deff save you a couple thousands.. hehe. like i said I know the mechanics..

Now where can i get some injectors for a good price??
dealer wants 290 HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOO.

and a FPD ??
thanks

Wow, that's still $1600 in labor to change an FPD? (The FPD is $150 retail). I would expect half that at the most.

New injectors are pricey - but only $125/ea from rx7store.net (http://www.rx7store.net/category_s/90.htm).

okay here's what i'm going to do....

tomorrow i have an appt. to change my injectors.. i'm getting them for 150 plus exchange.. which is a cool price for some balance and calibrated NEW****. my friend has some spares..

so 150 for the injectors plus 80 for labor.. ohh and i'm taking off the FPD. one of my friends works and rebuilds FC,FDs and mr2's. i'm getting the injectors from him. and he just told me to block it off FPD. but i'm actually going to do what that Banzai page tells you so yeah.. he said worst could happen is a rough idle.. thats pretty much it.. and this other shop said the same thing But they don't Advise me to take it off.

If the question is if you'll be the first, then the answer will be found by searching.

I do believe that the vast majority keep the FPD while they're working with the stock fuel rail.

I kept my fpd after I upgraded the secondary fuel injectors. I see no need to eliminate it.

so far so good.. drove it to the city 2nite.. didn't realy want to.. cuz peeps here don't know how to drive.. plus i got a little too happy with the throttle and started driving almost hit the side walk and a porsche.. close call........ now only thing i gotta do is paint my quarter panel part of it.. where that son of Bitch threw a rag with gas then set it on fire.. anyways... my idle is cool. still normal but if i floor it all the way down it will bog like its too rich.... only up to 1900 rpm. pretty much it...
